Interesting point. I adopted 4 rounds from the general practice in other tournaments I've attended and the Burton tournament that I inherited. We do 6 for Mercian DBA but HOTT games can go on quite a bit longer... What does the community think? One way of speeding HoTT up a bit is to use ‘100 paces = 1 BW’ instead of ‘100 paces = 1 inch’ when using 15mm figures, as described in the “Ground Scale” section on page 5 of HoTT 2.1. This effectively increases all movement rates by 50%, reducing the mind-numbingly looooong time it takes to get returning Hordes into action. However, this can increase the chances of fleeing right off the table…but this can be mitigated by fleeing troops changing direction (see “Fleeing” on page 25). (DBA 3.0 uses a similar system of turning and fleeing along a table side-edge). Just a thought. Good idea. I'd be happy with a slightly earlier Registration/start time if it meant we could squeeze another round in. Also maybe the scoring system could encourage faster/more aggressive play? Something like the system at the Northern Cup where you get points for elements killed?

Congratulations on getting a Quaker Hall for the tournament; I have found them rather 'strict' on their terms for hire. That was a pretty low hurdle as I'm a Quaker. We are only playing games. If we were in any way promoting war I would not be involved let alone organising & it would not be allowed. i am curious what have you found it difficult to book for. Most Meeting Houses are reliant on letting for income to keep the building going... You remind me that I should add a note that the venue is alcohol free though there is a rather nice pub opposite. Hmm ... let's start with alcohol ... .

I am fed up with washing my hands with it and happier to be drinking some at huge uplift in a bar.

Looking forward to the event! I gather that out of respect, it's best if we avoid anything specifically demonic? I have an army of Witches which includes Baphomet as a God, but I figure that is probably inappropriate here?

Hi Pete Looking at making hotel booking…no imminent changes to the status of the competition, I assume -?? - still currently going ahead?

Hi...I'm really interested in this. Is it going to be 15mm scale? I believe so….ie 40mm frontages (though the exact scale of the figures tends to be variable…)

I'm a Quaker myself and Coventry Friends can differentiate between a game & real life. A Quaker invented Monopoly & we really disprove of overpriced housing! Bring on Baphomet & the Witches - very in theme especially as one derivation of the city name is the tree used by the witches coven!

Many thanks for running Hott Godiva, Pete. Great day of gaming, and good to meet some gamers face to face.
Congrats to Jane, and the podium placed persons (no doubt there will be a resumé, hate to jump the gun).
Cheers!!!

I would also like to thank Peter Duckworth for a good event, at a good venue, with good people. One thing it showed me is that I (with a few other players) got several of the HoTT & DBA rules mixed up. I need to make myself a simple comparison chart showing the differences between these two rule-sets. I chose "Daleks" as Delia Derbyshire, the BBC Radiophonic Workshop pioneer who influence electronic music and the Doctor Who theme music, was born in Coventry, so she seemed appropriate for a Coventry Culture event. As the armies were swapped in the last two games, so that you had to command your opponent’s army while they used your own, it turned out that my Daleks worked better when someone else led them! (I often had to say “you would make a good Dalek!”)

A great event, 4 wonderful games. My first HOTT event ever and the first games of it I had played since 2005. I had no issue with getting mixed up with DBA as I have never played DBA anyway!
Thank you to all my opponents for having some patience with me trying to recall rules. Can't complain at 4th place, really! 2 wins, 2 losses.
Looking forward to the next HOTT event.
