As you may know this year Coventry hosts the City Of CultureTo celebrate this I'm running a special tournament in a new (to Tournament gaming) City Centre venue , Coventry Quakers - 25 Hill St, Coventry CV1 4AN Saturday 7th August 10:30 am for the first round. We will aim for 4 rounds. The theme for armies will be Culture - so your scope is pretty wide. As always non-themed armies are most welcome. The fee will be £10 per player but we have some special prizes and the venue has city centre parking plus we will have full kitchen facilities. Why not make it a family event, explore the city and the events in this unique year? Message me for hotel recommendations etc. Please let me know if you can make it. Please respect the venue rules which are alcohol free. Though do use the local facilities such as the excellent real-ale pub opposite: www.gatehousetavern.com/

Yes I'm interested, but any chance of increasing the number of rounds? (just makes the trip slightly more worthwhile).
Thanks

Living just up the road in Nottingham, I’d like to participate if I may, having missed-out on Simon’s Bakewell Midlands Open. (cos she who must be obeyed doesn’t like the idea of me mixing with all you sweaty wargamers during a pandemic…but by August I should be fully vaccinated and immune )However, I don’t have any suitably themed HoTT armies for the occasion, just Sci-Fi ones (Martians, giant radioactive ants, Daleks and Cybermen)… …although I could knock up a 15mm medieval DBA type army for HoTT. Come to think of it, and being from Nottingham, Robin of Loxley, the Prince of Thieves, seems appropriate…

Congratulations on getting a Quaker Hall for the tournament; I have found them rather 'strict' on their terms for hire.

Congratulations on getting a Quaker Hall for the tournament; I have found them rather 'strict' on their terms for hire. That was a pretty low hurdle as I'm a Quaker. We are only playing games. If we were in any way promoting war I would not be involved let alone organising & it would not be allowed. i am curious what have you found it difficult to book for. Most Meeting Houses are reliant on letting for income to keep the building going... You remind me that I should add a note that the venue is alcohol free though there is a rather nice pub opposite.

Yes I'm interested, but any chance of increasing the number of rounds? (just makes the trip slightly more worthwhile). Thanks Interesting point. I adopted 4 rounds from the general practice in other tournaments I've attended and the Burton tournament that I inherited. We do 6 for Mercian DBA but HOTT games can go on quite a bit longer. Our usual timing is shown below. People usually seem to enjoy a pub lunch if there is a one nearby as there will be. I need time to collate results and work out the rounds. I do hurry things forward if everyone has finished. You are of course welcome to play as many games in the time as you want (though I only have the venue until 5). 10.30 Registration Round 1 10.45 -11.45 Break Round 2 12.00-13.00 Lunch Round 3 13.45-14.45 Break Round 4 15.00-16.00 Presentations1 16:15 I'm happy to organise it the way people want to play. i know the Americans in Nashville only do 3 rounds but they have people travelling even longer distances than Plymouth to Coventry!. What does the community think?

Interested, Pete. Just need to work out the logistics... A clue on hotels would be appreciated, pls. Excellent HOTT Godiva wouldn't be the same without you.
Belgrade Plaza is 1 minute walk from (and in sight of) from the venue. Premier Inn & the only one I've actually stayed in myself! Ramada is nearby Britannia used to be called The Godiva and had a good rep but is now part of a chain. I haven't heard reports since. A number of aparthotels have sprung up. I have no guidance thereon...

Hi...I'm really interested in this. Is it going to be 15mm scale?

What does the community think? One way of speeding HoTT up a bit is to use ‘100 paces = 1 BW’ instead of ‘100 paces = 1 inch’ when using 15mm figures, as described in the “Ground Scale” section on page 5 of HoTT 2.1. This effectively increases all movement rates by 50%, reducing the mind-numbingly looooong time it takes to get returning Hordes into action. However, this can increase the chances of fleeing right off the table…but this can be mitigated by fleeing troops changing direction (see “Fleeing” on page 25). (DBA 3.0 uses a similar system of turning and fleeing along a table side-edge). Just a thought.

Can I just suggest those booking rooms and travel make sure you can get a full refund if the event has to be cancelled.
There is probably a 50-50 chance it will have to be, vaccinated or not.

Dalrks & Cybermen - are definitely "culture" . Also the wrk of Delia Derbyshire (who did lots of the music for early Dr Who) was from Coventry, she & her legacy feature prominently in the City of Culture program. Particularly the opening Saturday music at 8 am & 8.20pm coventry2021.co.uk/what-s-on/coventry-moves/I for one will be disappointed not to have any Dr Who armies on show...

Very well then…Daleks it is!
I’ll use the 15mm ones from the Dalek Risk boardgame so they are more compatible with other figures, and keep the 28mm Warlord ones purely for fighting other Doctor Who Warlord figures. (The ‘Dalek City Stronghold’ will work for both scales, so no problem there)
