Thinking about Heroes and Paladins lately. On table they are just another hard hitting element (though do have some interesting interplay with other Characters). Three Heroes marshaled together used to be referred to as the Heroic Panzer Division.
Pondering a more heroic approach. Considering just allowing them to be added to any Element type and then granting that Element an Heroic Intervention re-roll. If successful you just get the better result but if a failure (Recoil/Doubled) the Hero is killed (Element might survive but no more Hero).
Paladins would be similar except that they give an all time +1 in Combat BUT must use an Heroic Intervention on a losing Combat and regardless of the second result are slain (in some heroic self sacrificing way - write your own narrative).
Hero v. Hero v. Paladin combats would negate any Heroic Interventions with the loser just being slain (but not necearrly the Element).
Dead Hero/Paladin would count as a lost Element when determining Break Point though.
Finally considering making "Character" Elements self-ordering (no PIP required).
Any thoughts welcome.

An interesting suggestion, which I have given some thought to. Although not entirely against the idea, it does raise some questions.
Appearance: how do you distinguish between an element with or without a Hero? I suppose a token next to the element could do the job, but will players be happy with on-table markers in a DBA/HoTT type game? (people are certainly not going to like re-basing their current Heroes).
Costs: what will this Hero-element cost? 1 extra AP for the Hero perhaps, so that an ordinary Blade or Knight costs 2 AP’s, while a Blade+Hero or Knight+Hero costs 3 AP’s?
Availability: who gets the Hero upgrade? Having a Lurker+Hero or Sneaker+Hero would be a bit of a waste, as would a Horde+Hero. And a God shouldn’t be allowed to be a Hero. A Dragon could maybe, with a Hero Dragon rider, but what about a Magician+Hero and an Artillery+Hero? I would imagine a Behemoth+General+Hero would become quite popular.
Bespelling: what happens if one of these Element+Hero becomes bespelled by a magic attack? Is the Hero lost for good, or can they come back, and where on the table do they come back?
(You could on the other hand apply this suggestion but give it a different name... ...rather than calling it a ‘Element+Hero’ call it a ‘Superior/Elite Element’ instead)
However, all this seems to be a lot of mucking around for very little gain. Still, with House Rules anything goes.

It largely depends on the fantasy universe you're gaming. Achilles will be out the front fighting and killing until a hero and/or god strikes him down. Luke Skywalker and Han Solo will succeed despite hopeless odds. Dr Who won't fight but will destroy the Stronghold. Maybe having different types of heroes with different benefits would work?
Cheers
