Saturday 6th November 2021, 1000 until 1700 Lady Emily Community Hall Tarrington Herefordshire HR1 4EX Tarrington is halfway between Hereford and Ledbury; approximately 11 miles from junction 2 of the M50. Format: “Scramble” Each player brings any valid 12-element v3.0 army on 15mm base sizes (40mm frontage), camp (camp follower element optional), and terrain for a legal battlefield as the defender, which may include provision of a specific legal board size. Note that the army will be used by other players. • Players will play AGAINST their own army only in the first round. • Players will use their own army only in the final round. • Players will be matched using Swiss chess format. • Armies will be matched as far as possible to maximise variety (of army used and fought against) for players. • The 12-element army and terrain choices may not be changed between rounds (hence no dismounting!). • Players must attempt to place all terrain pieces supplied. The aim is to have 6 rounds, but may be revised on the day. Depending upon the number of players and the time to arrange the pairings for each round, there is no guarantee of non-repetition, but priority order will be given to: 1. New opponent each round 2. New army used each round 3. New opposing army each round Cost will be £5 per player. Further details may be necessary depending upon social restrictions applicable at the time. If you are interested please let me know. So want to be there but I doubt that the vaccine level and travel restrictions will be lifted in Oz by then.

With the euphoric afterglow of Alton fresh in memory, the Tarrington Tourney detailed planning begins here.
Current definites and maybes are:
1. Scott Russell 2. Alan Davison 3. Matthew Davison 4. Martin Smith 5. Stephen Finn 6. Paul Murgatroyd 7. Tom Whitehead 8. Tim Rogers 9. Mark Skelton 10. Colin O’Shea 11. Arnaud Marmier 12. Richard Pulley 13. Mark Johnson 14. John Saunders 15. Paddy Myers
If you are a maybe (you know who you are) please let me know either way as soon as you can. Similarly, if anyone else would like to play, you’d be most welcome, please let me know.
Also, I usually provide lunch and am happy to again. Are people keen for that under current pandemic circumstances, or would preference be to bring your own. Please let me know, here or by PM.

Sadly Diades I am already booked for that day, otherwise I would have loved to "scramble" now my martial (or is that losing?) loins have been stirred again after Alton.

Salutations, gentlepeople,
The first winter nor'easter whistles over New Jersey, reminding us when the window edges need to be taped up and the air conditioners covered...
This 'scramble' format sounds like fun - at least for the players. But for the organizers... Be there any 'layout sheets' or other ways - even, Ghod help us, software - to enable the folk running the show to keep track of everything ?
Thanks very much for any help you can give us with this.

Both! I have spreadsheets, but that is mostly for the complicated ranking system I employ for the armies at the start. The rest would be just as easy on paper as spreadsheet I think. Players keep a score sheet as another layer of check. The hard work is matching armies, matching players, then matching pairs of players with pairs of armies to avoid too much repetition, which gets harder as more rounds are played… If you want to PM me, I’d be happy to detail further.

Looking forward very much to Tarrington next weekend….I have about 12 armies which might fit the bill, but will pick one from the ‘dodgy dozen’ today. Hoping it’s not too tough, which I have a sneaking suspicion it may well be….self defeating, but fun to see in action.
Have others been thinking about what they’ll be bringing to the mixing pot…?

If it's self defeating surely that's a good thing, until the last game? Of course it depends on which prize you're going for. I seem to remember last time, at least two other competitors being upset that I'd beaten them to the 'Worst performing army' prize, as they'd brought armies specifically designed to try and win that! I tend to think if I've taken an army to a competition before then I don't want to take it again, but give another one a try. This time it will be a bit of a mix, using some old Minifigs, poorly painted figures, with some newer elements, but I'm re-vamping the old bases to give them a semblance of respectability!
