My background is electronic servicing and security, I know what I am talking about in a trade shop for my industry or so I like to think but hate going in plumbers shops etc as I only have a vague idea what I am after.
Getting ready for lock down I wanted to get some paint for terrain so went into a paint trade shop, no interest in me wanting to buy paint as I couldn't name the exact type I wanted and practically asked me to leave as they were shutting in 45 min so didnt really have time to start mixing the colours I wanted.
No prob so went to a more general DIY shop presumably trained to deal with Joe public who need a bit of guidance. Super helpful. One of my customers is in the DIY trade and they have been encouraging their teams to make the sites more welcoming for public rather than just specialist trade to encourage more people in.
Different strokes for different folks.
I regularly use cheap paint for terrain and occasionally on miniatures.

You got a general retailer willing to do a paint mix? I cannot find one in the current crisis.

Most specialist paint shops will mix any colour you want, provided you can tell them the colour from a chart or give an example.
Last time I needed paint for my bases (I use a green undercoat) I took the lid of the dried up tin and said "I want something as close as possible to this".
They scanned it and colour matched it from that and mixed up a new tin of undercoat for me.
