I just completed my first DBA army, II/47g Other Early German Armies with all options (Thanks Essex!). It has been a long time since I painted, and it shows , but a painted army is a DONE army! Lessons learned: - I kinda like contrast paints, but still can't decide.
- Do NOT mount dudes to horses before painting, way harder for me.
- lighter touch, is a better touch.
- Don't forget about the camp.

They look nice! I haven't used contrast paints yet but you got some nice shading in the hair, the horse tails and the cloaks. Did you use any shades? A few strategically placed tufts and rocks (I use crumbled cork painted dark brown or grey then washed and drybrushed) will make them pop even more, particularly the psiloi. A handful of extra elements and you can morph all the Early German Armies except the Cherusci (II/47d) as they use 3Wb. Finishing an army is such a great feeling!

Awesome!
You must be itching to fight with them.
I am like you, much prefer having the riders and horses as separate figures and stick them on after both are painted up.
What is you next army you are going to paint?

I did do some dry brushing and attempted a few highlights on the shirtless guys. I am spraying my matt finish today, and then I will add the tuffs. Yeah, I was thinking about getting all the options for II/47 since there really is only a few things needed like the 3Wb. Scott

Matched pairs for the win.
After the 3 warband add some LH and LCh and you got Ancient British and Caledonians.

Like I was surprised on the II/49 romans had an elephant as an option I have a Tang army that has multiple different options - Even an elephant. Don’t know whether that is the most or not but it felt like it when painting it.
