Had a great demo game of DBN.
My Russians broke before they could complete the assault on the French village.
My elites beat the light French infantry and moved into the village but failed to garrison for three turns. Heavy cavalry smashed the French light but a rather speculative attack by my light cavalry was destroyed by the French artillery.
Some attack columns into a wood on my right were breaking through but some French elite beat off an attack by my infantry and some supporting cossacks which was enough to break my force.
Loved it enough to make me order some 6mm Russians.
If anyone knows where I can buy or download the DBN rules please let me know.
Thanks

I have been ghosting the Baccus site recently and wondering if I could explain doing all my hoplites again in 6mm. I painted a French DBN army using AB figures last summer. Great figures. Took forever! I'd be interested to see how you go with painting your Russians in 6mm. Cheers Jim

All my Napoleonic armies are 2mm. I currently have British, French, Austrian, Prussian. Russian and Spanish. Looking now to add some of the minor states to the collection. I play DBN and really enjoy it. I have the PDF download copy of the rules but recently purchased the print copy. Well worth it as I find it easier to look up rules etc. I always play using the arrition rules which I fel speeds the game and gives more realistic results. Pictures of some of my Napoleonics can be found here www.spanglefish.com/solitarywargamer under the 2mm Napoleonics heading.

Got a hard copy yesterday loving it. Russians first then French.
Still got loads of 28mm Russians to finish but got suckered in with a great DBN 6mm demo.

Why the choice of rules? Why not BLUCHER or ALTAR OF FREEDOM? What is the style of play and what makes them different?

Hi There I got Blucher and like it, the DBN bases will most likely end up being used for Blucher as well. DBN really for no other reason than a chum gave me a demo and I loved it, a club mate will give me grief as he has been trying to get me into 15mm Naps for ages but I have jumped from 28mm straight to 6mm.

The reason I like DBN is because it has the feel of DBA but at the same time is totally different. With DBN the inter reaction between the different units that make up your army is the key to success or failure. They say that Napoleonic warfare was like a game of Rock, scissors and paper. Each unit has its strengths and weakness as have military units throughout the ages and using them correctly is the key to victory.
DBN in my humble opinion captures that very well for the era it is designed for.
I also found the rule book to be generous in the optional rules, national characteristics, and army lists.
As I mentioned before I use 2mm for my Napoleonic on 15mm bases. The 2mm scale has enabled me to build up 6 armies very quickly.

The 15mm bases would be 40mm frontage? Is that a DBN standard? I had heard that a normal frontage for Napoleonic rules was 60mm.
How, into era of Covid-19, does one get a demo game! The world wonders. Are there any videos on line? [Yes, just found some - so off to find out more].

I cannot, off the top of my head remember the standard DBN basing, however 40mm works well for me. I think basing only matters if you enter competitions. To see a demo game try this link. www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6kWUHsB5nw

DBN rules have 40mm bases for 15mm or smaller.
Just ordered the Bassus Russians, way more than I need but intend to do larger battles eventually.
40mm basing also works well for me to use em for lart, impetus and BP.
Other than Epic armies these will only be my second 6mm force and looking forward to it.

Used my DBN Ottomans yesterday - not easy with all the extra rules, but fun. Looking to expand the 'Eastern Frontier' to include the Qajar Persians and the Georgians. Should be able to use 1813 Russians to fight them (war of 1816-22). Incidentally - I fluked a win.

Had another good game the other day.
Prussians vs French
My Prussians were mauled badly as I wasted too much effort on getting a BUA cleared. It split my force and allowed one wing to get crushed, things will be different when I have my own lads and am not forced to use mercenaries.
