Well in these days of C-19 lockdown I’m thinking about starting a blog to showcase my DBA armies as I collect and paint them. 128 so far with the Carthaginians on the painting table as I type!
Anyways - having never blogged I thought I needed to ask what was the easiest and best free site to use? Any advice?

I used Wordpress for a while but if I were you I would do a Youtube channel instead. It is a lot less work and has more exposure.

That may be a next step in the future - besides unlike you stony I probably have a face more suited to blogging!

You cant beat a good crotch shot, it's what we wargamers are famous for. That and a hand on chin stareing whistfully into the distance contemplating if it is possible to claw back a win by rolling a 13 on 2D6.

The two blogs, 18th Century Sojourn and Storm Within the Empire have been around for ten years with the latter taking the lion’s share of my focus. Both do serve as a personal archive to track the evolution of my wargaming passion, yet I am pleased that others have found them of interest.
Posts cover the usual topics such as painting armies, battle reports, historical scenarios and campaigns and among the positive aspects of blogging this has served as the ‘carrot on a stick’ to motivate me to complete a project.
This still remains a hobby and one should avoid losing the enjoyment of it. It will take time to find a ‘balance’ between researching, painting armies and writing about your effort.

I think the blog is a lot of work, but you’ll get a lot of gratitude from new gamers. 128 armies with pictures and notes would be a great resource to pull new people into the hobby and game system. The old Fanaticus had this or links to blogs and was hugely helpful in my getting into this type of gaming. I still like to read about others armies.
Timurilank’s blogs are valuable resources to me and I’m always checking to see what he is working on. He’s got me convinced that double armies are the way to go for historical battles.
Tony’s videos and painting postings on FB are also of great value. It’s just not as easy to search for info in a video or on FB.
So if you go either route, I will thank you for the effort.

Blogger is what I use; not sure how it compares to WordPress, but it is a free platform and I have never had much trouble using it.

I use (rarely) Blogger as well. Pretty user friendly. But as you can see, I always think I will blog more but other things take precedence. I have many posts in my head, especially DBA related, but they are stuck there for the time being. 7pillarsofwargaming.blogspot.com
