While giving the Muslim armies an upgrade I reviewed the army list for additional opponents and reading the description and composition of a few I noticed the how often articles in Slingshot were referenced as a source.
Of interest for myself and possibly others, I compiled the following list. I may have missed the odd one or two, but the list is quite impressive. No doubt there are fine articles covering other armies, but these found their way into DBA3.
Needless to say, I have joined the Society.
Slingshot referenced as a source, DBA3 Book I I/14 Northern Barbarians 2000 BC – 315 BC Slingshot 203 & 210 I/16 Hittite Old & Middle Kingdom 1800 BC – 1380 BC Slingshot 182, 183, 184, 187 I/24 Hittite Empire 1380 BC – 1180 BC Slingshot 120, 121, 122, 273 I/35 Cypriot & Phoenician 1000 BC – 332 BC Slingshot 261 I/36 Italian Hill Tribes 1000 BC – 124 BC Slingshot 102,103, 122 I/52 Early Hoplite Greek 669 BC – 449 BC Slingshot 96,97,98.100,101,102 I/64 Early Japanese 500 BC – 500 AD Slingshot 200, 251,252

I joined for a year about 5 or so years ago and found there was not much value for me as I am not interested in the myriad of other rule sets. I wish there was a way to receive Slingshot digitally.
I did order the back issues of Slingshot on CD which I found well worth it.

I just renewed my membership, last week.
Similar to what Tony mentioned, in that many of the articles might not be directly related to what I am into, I do read them all however, as I find I get lots of food for thought, etc..
Same goes for me with the Lone Warrior magazine.

I had been a member in the early 70s while studying at the University of California, great memories of the west coast tournaments held then. Returned to the Netherlands and continued the competitions in London, Brighton and Worthing in the late 70s early 80s. Membership stopped as my priorities changed, but that has now come full circle.

Martin,
That is on my list to purchase. The USB stick is preferred over the CD.

There is also a very good forum which members can access. Worth joining it, if you haven't already timurilank.

Robert, if you get no luck trying to join the forum give me a nudge, and I’ll try to contact someone on your behalf. (I believe the ‘invitation to join the forum’ is buried in the joiners’ e.mail from the SoA, and as a result gets frequently overlooked).

The invitation is buried in the middle of a long paragraph. Request sent. Robert

Registration complete.
Later today I will submit an 'introduction' of myself and begin digging up old posts covering the late mediëval era.

Slingshot - November-December Issue 333.
Received the latest issue of Slingshot with some interesting articles; Seleucid Elephants, Absent Generals, Characene, and an in-depth analysis of the Battle of Castillon (1453) by Nick Harbud; the latter is eleven pages with maps. Nice.
The Battle of Castillon is on my list of scenarios and is ready to play, but I thought after Formigny readers may enjoy something else than another French victory.
