This series of eleven videos on the Ottoman Army cover various aspects such as organisation, battlefield formations, regional differences, flags and symbols. Presented by The Bronze Monkey, each video is brief, well-illustrated and makes use of maps. Worth a view even if you do not have an Ottoman Army. Of historical interest, the years 1480 – 1520 became known as a period of peace, however, governors (Beylerbeys) of the frontier regions
were not idle; many conducted effective raids into Serbia, Hungary and Austria. The composition of such raiding parties would no doubt differ from the Ottoman army list.

This book is highly recommended, ‘A Military History of the Ottomans’ by Mesut Uyar and Edward J. Erickson for anyone interested in the Ottomans. Chapters one and two are of particular interest as they cover both sub-lists with the remaining chapters bringing the reader to 1918.
