The 11th century Tuareg are ready but lack flags.
Finding information about Tuareg flags is near impossible, but does anyone have an idea to their appearance?
What I do know:
D. Nicolle and H. Kennedy mention briefly common colours of white, black and green were used by the Umayyads, Abbasids and Fatamids. Puritanical movements preferred red.
Inscriptions were introduced by the Abbasid and became common for Western Islamic armies.
Common shape of military flags are rectangular.
Suggestions?

My Tuareg have a rectangular yellow flag with a blue device on it. A vertical bar with a cross piece towards each end of the bar with the ends bent up so they end up at the same level as the top and bottom of the vertical bar. I think I googled "tuareg flags" and copied it from there. It bears no relation to the Moslem/Arabic flags of the period.

I have seen those images but decided not to use them. As allies of the Muslim North African their flags might have served as examples for Tuareg commanders. |
