Testors Dullcote has disappeared from our shelves late last year. I should know as I bought all the remaining stock in this country. A recent post at TMP (The Miniatures Page) expressed surprise as it is no longer available in the US with responders mentioning Windsor Newton Professional spray a good alternative. Our local art supply shop does list Windsor Newton, but have no stock and neither do the other 27 shops within the country.
They have queried their distributor but have no concrete answer as when delivery will be made.
As Windsor Newton is produced in the UK, can anyone share any information? Production problems, logistical issues, GW conspiracy?

If I may offer my own recent experience... Typically I airbrush Vallejo matte clear on my models, however, this year I started employing Rust-Oleum Painters Touch 2x Ultra Cover Matte Clear. It works exceptionally well. Is very affordable and because it is a Rust-Oleum product it is also very easy to find throughout much of the US.

Thanks for the replies.
The shipping of aerosols to the Netherlands would be a problem. However, Rustoleum and Krylon can be found in the DIY here.
Reviews of the other brands (Humbrol, Vallejo, etc.) have not been kind. Still, I have enough Dullcote for the latest Muslim armies.
But, there are other collections varnished gloss that I would like to re-spray mat.

I use Winsor Newton Matt spray and I can concur that it’s great stuff and handles a wide range of weather conditions

I agree, the Rustoleum is good, even too good if you're not careful! Apply thin coat and make sure the model is well dry first. I've had it collect in joints and turn white, but it seems to vary from can to can. I switched to W-N Professional Matte spray for consistency and ease of use. The W-N Matte spray (not the Pro) is cheaper per can, but more of a satin. Both cans are silver, but only 1 says Professional. Go Pro! Jeff If I may offer my own recent experience... Years ago I had a problem with some Humbrol matt varnish coating some 15mm ECW figures I'd painted in white. When I complained they said it was the matting agent and I hadn't mixed it up enough before spraying! However they still paid me compensation for the figures, which was good of them.

I have heard of similar issues with the varnish supplied by the major plastic manufacturers.
The local DIY here in the Netherlands have reduced their offering of RustOleum product, so no mat varnish. Pity.
Another DIY centre offer a mat varnish from a manufacturer I am not familiar with. While waiting for a resolution to the Windsor Newton supply I will pick up a can of unknown brand tomorrow.

I bought a job lot of matt varnish supplied by The Paint Factory as I'd used it before and was happy with the result, but the last couple of cans have give a, at best Satin finish, at worst gloss.
Looked at the W & N professional matt gloss but approx £35 for 400ml!!

I had my eye on this Windsor Newton item advertised as a mat varnish (400ml) for much less cost: www.pipoos.com/artists-vernis-mat-spray.html
