During the current lockdown I have been playing a lot of DBA solo.
For no Particular reason I set up a Hundred Years War battle. I played English and the AI system the French. I was attacking. Terrain was then set up using the solo system.
Battle was fought. a very enjoyable game, especially as the English won 4 elements to 0!
I then had an idea. How about leaving the terrain as is and fighting the battle again but with forces from a different era, only terrain altered was the BUA, I replaced the Norman Church and tithe barn for a couple of Ancient British huts. Attackers same side of the table as before.
I this time pitted Early Imperial Roman against Ancient British. Again I was the attacker. However different result. I lost 4 elements to the British 2.
Today I am hoping to do another battle. This time jumping right ahead in history to the Peninsular war, a DBN 12 point battle.
What I found really interesting with the first two battles was how the terrain impacted on how different troop types were used.
I may then move everything 90 degrees so playing across the terrain this time.
The terrain made up as follows:
BUA to the right and slightly forward of the French right flank Difficult hill to left and slightly forward of the French left flank Plough virtually in the centre between the two armies, offset slightly to French left. Wood forward and on the right English flank. Wood forward and on the left English flank.
Using the same terrain with different armies certainly passed an hour or so.

DBN battle fought. However it was not set in the Peninsular but France 1815. A fictional engagement set during the 100 days campaign.
French were heavily defeated 5 elements to 2. The French failed to select the best troops for the terrain, woods, steep hill and BUA even though I weighted their AI selection towards the best troop type. They being Skirmishers and Light Infantry. Instead they went for Old Guard, Line Infantry and Heavy Cavalry. This battle showed how lack of troops for the terrain you are faced with can be catastrophic.
Next battle back a couple of Hundred years to 1645. New Model Army against Royalists. Using DBA-RRR

I really like this idea, Cromwell.
Does anyone know of sites that experienced many battles over time?

I believe Newbury in the English Civil War was fought over twice, but I think the fighting overlapped each battle field rather than on the exactly the same terrain. Another is St Albans during the Wars of the Roses.
These though were all in the same time span.
I may be wrong but did Julius Caesar land in Britain very near the same spot William of Normandy did in 1066, but of course William was not opposed during his landing but Caesar was, so not really a battle on the same spot.

Now fought an English Civil War battle using DB-RRR. Again the terrain played a big part. The woods, steep hill and BUA restricted use of the Cavalry elements and indeed the Pikes.
Both sides fielded Dragoons but strangely no skirmishers.
Royalists won the battle 4 elements to 2. Mainly because they fielded an element of Cavaliers (Knights) in reserve and they were able to exploit a hole punched by combined Infantry and Pike in the New Model Army's centre.
I played the New Model Army and the AI system the Royalists. Another good batle.
