Lockdown......still.......So time for another solo DBA 3.0 battle. This time Alfred facing the Danes' The field of battle had a small hamlet on the viking right flank. Two area's of plough to their front and a wood on the Saxon right flank. The first pip role was not 1 so the plough in the centre was not going to cause problems. The Vikings surged forwar and were meet by the Saxon Blades and the Select Fryd, early successes forced the fryd back. An element of Saxon Huscurls fell weakening the Saxon line, the Vikings exploited this. The Saxons were slow bringing in their reserves and although removing an element of the Viking Hird three units of Saxon fryd fell leaving the Vikings the victors. I played the Saxon's. You probably had guessed that already as the Saxon's lost! Pictures posted on my web page www.spanglefish.com/solitarywargamer/index.asp?pageid=709935The figures used are from the paper soldiers found in Peter Denis' Battle For Britain Hastings 1066 book,

Indeed. Those are fine inspirational examples to paint your lead miniatures.

God bless Peter Dennis...
I've got the ECW book and the Castle Assault book.
These are part of our childhood that we can realize now.

The figures do look good, especially on mass. One thing is I should have based them on heavier card as at the moment they do tend to shuffle about a bit on their own.
Great thing is if an element gets tatty, trodden on or eaten by a pet you just print and cut out another one!
These figures came out of the 1066 book which has three armies. Norman, Anglo Saxon and Viking. The figures for the Saxons and Vikings are later than the time of Alfred as can be seen by the shields and Harrold's "Fighting Man" banner fluttering away.
The set also includes casualties, civilians including peasants, monks, priests etc. There are also some great buildings which included houses barn, chapel, viking tents, Saxon Burgh and Viking Longships.
Not bad for around £12. A bit of card, ink and nail scissors and your away!
