I really hope I'm not the only one who experiences this but it seems every time I read through Purple I discover yet another rule or aspect of the rules I've either not employed or employed in a questionable manner. I mean the rules are barely 12 pages long.
This morning over breakfast I was reading the rules again ( I plan to start instructing newbies so I wanted to cross my "i"s and dot my "t"s ) and noticed for the first time that formations containing Hordes take an extra PIP to move after the first bound. I just never saw that and never costed their movement correctly before.

...every time I read through Purple I discover yet another rule or aspect of the rules I've either not employed or employed in a questionable manner. Yep. Kinda like peeling an onion, right? Or like scratching away at a dig-site with a toothbrush. Always something new and interesting to be found in Purple. For me, those "finds" tend to be in army-lists I had never looked at closely before. So much to enjoy.

For me its two things. I read faster than I think so I miss a lot when books are not written clearly. I also think having the diagrams separated from the written rules portion lends itself to re-reads of the Purple

Thanks Roland, I too had missed that one. Funny, I caught it in HotT but totally missed the DBA version. Sheesh!

Thanks Paul; actually I was referring to Thomas J. Thomas' D3H2. ------ If the element or group to be moved includes any Mages, Aerials, Scythed Chariots, Behemoths,Hordes, War Wagons, Artillery,

I'm convinced a combination of playing a specific army and maybe a specific historical opponent almost requires a reread of the rules every time to reduce my error rate.
I have tried to come up with standard armies to use in training new players. (I like to use my 4 x 54mm medieval armies for that.)
I've also developed my own QRS sheets for these combinations.
I also play a lot of different rules sets, so these methods help there too. Even systems like C&C are very different over the differentm versions.

I try as much as possible to make the rules consistent and clear in D3H2 so I'm not surprised it got caught there but missed in DBA 3.0.
Getting DBX mechanics into an easily accessible format seems to be my life's work.

I am not allowed to wear shorts. My wife says when I do it frightens children and horses.
