Working on some more medieval armies this weekend and decided it was time for another blog entry.

Thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed reading your thoughts.
I also started collecting 15mm miniatures a little over 30 years ago so found myself reminiscing a little as my first 15mm were from the Zulu War range by Minifigs. The paint had barely dried on the Minifig miniatures, when I found a copy of Wargames Illustrated #6, which I am sure the newsagency received the magazine by accident, I saw an advert for Essex Miniatures. Needless to say that the Australian distributor received an order from not long after.
Your piece on paper flags was really interesting. I have also started to use paper flags over the past few years especially with the advancements in the quality. Many years ago I used to think nothing of painting up American Civil War flags for my 8mm Alder miniatures. Not now.
Kind Regards, Barry

So very glad you enjoyed it. This rekindled love of 15mm and DBX has been very liberating. The fact that my efforts to draw a portion of my local gaming community into the community of classic gaming and DBX in particular has been very gratifying too. While an active participant in a wide range of gaming for long time the hegemony within the community of miniatures gaming of a company we all know ( and its trademark products) has begun to feel a bit overwhelming to me, a bit oppressive. The dizzying speed with which they churn out new product and games rewrites started to feel like my hobby was merely a subscription service to GW. It is so nice to reclaim my hobby. I hope to have further blog updates in the coming week. Cheers,

Nice post - I also have a fondness for Essex, although a you note there are some codes that have problems.
