Hi
I'm painting a Burgundian army...
One of the units is Archers (Mtd-4Lb/ 4Lb) which, if I've got this correct can be chosen as either mounted/ foot on deployment (since they've got a '/')
Currently I'm struggling to see a case for Foot - since the Mounted can shoot as longbows, and move as knights/ Light Horse in good going.
Am I missing something?

Am I missing something? As a late medieval player ( and a Burgundian player in particular) the argument I would offer for considering deploying them dismounted is the flank support that (4Lb) receive in a battle line in DBA 3.0 that I do not believe they receive if they are deployed mounted.

There seems to be a bit of confusion here about the status of Mtd-Inf (Mounted Infantry). First, despite their name, they are classed as a foot element, not a mounted element. See page 3, paragraph 3, last sentence:- “(Mtd-Inf) are on larger bases with their mounts, but remain foot and differ in that in good going they have the same tactical move as knights and can move more than once per bound.”And the FAQ says this about them:- "Q: Can Mtd-4Lb receive side support from the 4Bd? A: Yes, Mtd-4Lb is an element of "Solid" Bow. It is the same as a 4Lb element except is has a deeper base with mounts, moves 3BW in good going, can move more than once per bound, has different deployment rules, and has a different combat outcome in bad going. (They also cannot shoot if they move more than 1 BW)”In short, in DBA Mtd-Inf don’t actually shoot from horseback, but dismount to shoot, and temporarily remount when they are actually moving. They are just foot shooters that can move faster. Note that Mtd-4Lb moves 3 BW in good going, but only 1 BW in bad or rough going. Mtd-3Lb moves 3 BW in good going, and still 3 BW in bad or rough going. (i.e. they have dismounted and are leading their horses, so move at the same speed as "Fast" Bow in hindering terrain) Some Helpful Downloads can be found here: fanaticus-dba.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Reference_sheets_and_epitomes And here is the latest Jan 2020 FAQ: ancientwargaming.files.wordpress.com/2020/01/dba_faq_q1_2020_final.pdf

Noted ( thanks for the update) FWIW, in actual historical terms I had no misconception about how mounted archers fought in actuality. (but I clearly overreached on the DBA abstraction of them in game terms). So yeah, getting back to the original post ( now that my disinformation has been cleared up ) with the exception of being a little more unwieldy in traffic due to larger base size, Mtd-Lb have plenty to recommend them.

So to clarify the answer to the original question, you can have them as either mounted infantry or ordinary infantry, both 4Lb
The mounted inf option gives you the advantages that Stevie outlines, but don't forget they are auto killed in bad going if beaten, whereas the ordinary foot would need to be doubled.
So I suppose it depends if you want more elements other than your 4Cb or possibly Ps to be able to operate in bad going?

Good point, sheffmark.
I was going to post that caveat a couple of hours ago, but in looking through Purple couldn't remember where it was noted so did some painting...
For anyone else who has mis-remembered the location, it is in the first sentence in combat outcomes below the heading -
If the total is less that that of the opponent but more than half: Destroyed if defenders of a city, fort or camp, or denizens or camp followers who have sallied or mounted infantry in bad going.
