I'll be using this thread as a means of detailing the terrain I'll be constructing for the 10 scenarios, covering battles fought in Britain, that I'll be hosting at MOAB this year. The scenarios range from Watling St and end with Flodden.
First up, I've just completed an abandoned and ruined fort that will feature in the scenario for the Battle of Camelon. Images of the terrain piece can be seen on the 2 FB DBA pages.

Some progress has been made for this project. Woods, Marshes, Rivers, Dunes and a Waterway are complete. I have constructed 10 80mmx40mm palisaded camps that only require painting, texturing and flocking to be completed. Once the camps are completed I'll post images on the 2 FB DBA groups. BTW it took 373 toothpicks, cut in half, to make 746 pieces that needed to be glued to supports to form the palisades. So what's left to do I hear you ask. A number of oversized Gentle and Difficult Hills, Roads, a couple of bridges and a fairly large representation of Lincoln.

You are doing great Greg. Never seen the game master do as much as you are.
I sincerely hope that the great pandemic is over by October.
Question for you. Is day 1 theme going to be war bands?
Regards,
Rob Grierson

Hi Rob,
Thanks for the kind words. If MOAB does go ahead, fingers crossed, the Saturday will be a Warbands theme. To meet the criteria for a eligible army there must be a minimum of 4 Wb elements and may have up to 2 Kn or El elements.

So yesterday I applied the sand texture to the hills and today I have coated the texture with a 50:50 PVA and water mixture. That should dry overnight and tomorrow I'll look at applying colour.

Yesterday I was able to apply two coats of burnt umber as a base coat and a drybrushed coat of raw sienna. Today, weather permitting, I'll apply a second drybrush coat of raw sienna and follow up with a drybrush coat of sand. If all goes well I hope to start laying down some flocking.

I'm really pleased with how the drybrushing turned out. Now onto flocking.

I was able to flock 5 hills yesterday. However, as I'm conducting this operation outside, but undercover, wind and rain have curtailed my plans for more flocking today 😥. Perhaps the weather will be better tomorrow.

I find a box used for packing books is an ideal size for doing this outdoors.

Thanks for your tip Robert. Yesterday I completed the last of the 16 hills. As today is sunny and and still I'll be able to spray a coat of matte varnish to seal the hills.

Yesterday I completed the rivers and roads for the 10 scenarios that I'll be hosting at MOAB in October this year. All that remains to do is a large BUA to represent Lincoln.
