A single element contacted on the flank conforms - but conforming can be side to front with front corners touching. It does not also turn to face till end of bound.
While the rules - this is the bizarre process: a Knight crashes into your flank - and its fine just wait till they move up some skirmishers so I can fight them instead - I'm better off fighting two directions at once and the element crashing into my flank is the least of my worries.
As an example of its bizzarness - I've got a body of skirmishers distracting a Blade to the front and being a table top Alexander I crash my Knights into the Blades rear - so what says the Blade thank goodness I'm being attacked from two directions at once since I get to fight the Ps +4 v. +2F and even if the Knights are crushing my rear I could care less. BUT I'm an evil mage and order my skirmishers to kill themselves HA HA now its +3DE v. +3! and the Knights romp. In the real world the Knights crashing into the rear would determine the result - no one, least of all the Knights, could care less what happened to the peasants to the front.
Its one of the few mechanical aspects of DBX that doesn't work (but due to overlaps and hard flanking rules fortunately does not have undo effect. The easiest solution is to let the attacker pick which element in front edge contact is the primary attacker and so use its factors and abilities (and liabilities if its a Knight attacking a Blade).
