Any Chaps around this area for DBA, I have yet to finish my two armies as my old ones were eventually destroyed in one of my many house moves so starting again with dba 3 rule book due in a couple of weeks, my old rules were version 1 so I got some catching up to do.

Welcome! I am an Aussie but located in Sydney. Just reconnecting myself in the past 6-12 months myself. There are a number of Aussies on here, not sure who might be from Melbourne. I am sure you will find it all still feels like DBA at the core but there are plenty of changes since v1. Enjoy!

Pity you're not up here in Canberra notintheface We have just concluded a year long DBA Campaign of the Northern Crusades - involving Teutonic Order, Prussians, Lithouanians, Medieval Scandinavians (d list), Early Polish (b list), Medieval German (b list), Post Mongol Russian (a list) and Golden Horde. You can see the brief synopsis in the Campaigns section under the thread name "Winterson" If you search through the DBA groups on the Book of Face (Look for "Wintersong") you will find maps and battle pictures as well Cheers

Hello Macbeth, I don’t do this book of faces of which you speak, what you chaps did sound like perfect fun and can’t wait to read about it.

I'm in the inner north, and usually keen for a game but things are a bit busy in the lead up to CanCon, so time is short.
This Sunday (19 Jan) I'm hoping to play some warm up games at the League of Ancients meeting (Caulfield RSL). Any chance you could get there?

Unfortunately Spitzicles I am a busy boy so after CanCon sounds good, I’m still waiting for rule book to land so have not based anything yet. What armies do you own?

OK. Also keep in mind the DBA players at the League are considering a one day DBA event in February or March.
I have a range of armies, determined by my own interests or an upcoming event or campaign. Samnites (my first DBA army), Hoplite Greek, Sea Peoples, Early Philistine, Early Armenian, Umayyad arab, Abbasid arab, Tibetan, Tribal Mongol, Mongol Conquest and Western Sudanese.
Of course I have a number of unpainted armies .... buy now, paint whenever ...

The rule book will take over a month to get here, it may turn up early February but thinking of popping in to check this DBA night out whether I’m ready or not.

The League meets this Sunday (19 January) from 10am upstairs at the Caulfield RSL - 4 St Georges Rd in Elsternwick (yeah, its odd). Its just off the 67 tram line and a short walk from Elsternwick station. Check the League's website for more details (http://www.leagueofancients.org/), though its still showing the dates for 2019. First visit is free, membership is $20 per year and joining the RSL is encouraged.
Hope to see you there.

How was yesterday, did you triumph?

How was yesterday, did you triumph? Played three games last Sunday against Stephen, an experienced DBA player.
In the first, his Med German foot knights (Blade) ploughed into the Western Sudanese bow with predictable results. Throwing my general into the melee didn't save the situation. A 2-5 loss.
In the second, Stephen was reluctant to advance his centre (Blade) into my centre (Blade and Bow) until both flanks were better positioned. The light horse and bow on my flanks took advantage of this, picking off units (mounted, crossbow and psiloi) as they advanced and re-positioned themselves. In a wild last turn Stephen's centre crashed into contact, there were combats everywhere, I managed to roll 4 consecutive sixes (lucky!!), and when the dust settled the Sudanese had achieved a 6-4 victory.
In the third we changed armies, Stephen fielding his Late Imperial Romans against my Early Philistines. The LIR advanced with a focus on keeping all their elements in a single line. The Philistines danced their centre and right flank to the right, and with an overlap their right flank warriors (fast blade and auxilia) fell on the open LIR left flank and proceeded to roll it up. A 4-1 victory to the Philistines.
It was good to play the games. I hadn't played DBA since October last year. The Western Sudanese certainly needed another hit out before CanCon. I was lucky in the second game, but die rolling is at the heart of DBA.
