Breaking tradition we held this years Shetland leg on a club night. Normally we book a room for a day at the weekend. On reflection this may have been a mistake as we only managed to get 4 players plus myself. Tables set up and ready for play. Attending were Paul who borrowed my Barsoomian Tharks. Sean who brought his fantasy Spartans. Martin who brought his Carthaginians. Gerorge who borrowed my Dwarfs. I used my Barsoomian Red men as this was the first HOTT army I built. Seans Hero general giving my hero general a pasting. The second time this happened to me that night. Martin Carthaginians and stronghold/camp Seans Fantasy Spartans and Stronghold. This stronghold was voted by the players as best and won a prize. Martin actually won the competition but as his company provided the prizes he passed first prize to Paul who was second. The prize was a lovely Battle Valor games Elvian army provided by Dragon frog games. So a win for Ugly in the GBnU. Overcome with emotion. Martin presenting Sean with his prize for winning Stronghold. The prize was a lovely set of Dragonfrog building. Sean also overcome.

Which weekend is it normally held?

We have had various weekends from end of October to end of November. Not sure what you mean by deal with a hotel? I started off by holding the event at my house but then started booking a room on a Saturday or Sunday in a local community center. This year there has been a lot going on added with various members being busy at the weekend. So decided to just go with a club night. As it turns out we got such a low turn out I am wondering if this was a mistake.

Are there many available? Would hotels want to 'compete' for trade at that time of the year? Perhaps I could persuade my wife that a week's holiday or a long weekend spent there would be a good way to see the less usually visited parts of the Kingdom.

Right with you now. There are plenty of hotels available although some are winding down for the winter. Have never thought we would get much interest from outside Shetland. So not sure what kind of deal could get. Shetland isn't much of a tourist destination in winter apart from the last Tuesday in January. I used to run another HOTT event about that time. But interest in that has waned as well.

Nice report thanks for sharing . It’s always good to see the actual people that we read about. Those Spartans look very good. I see six Spears and a couple of beasts what are the rest ? Not a problem with five players, just keep showing the flag and it will grow.
Where did you get the template rulers? They seem to be GBU related but I don’t remember them being given out.

Hi Bob the problem is we are going backwards with attendance. If I remember right the other elements were riders and a hero general. The movement rulers were maybe from 2017?

Interesting about the template. We did 60mm base widths and got sticks marked off in Base Width, not the templates.

Bob, the template for eh 28 MM gamers was different from the one for the 15 MM gamers.. The 28 MM one was more like a straight ruler.
