On Sept. 14 we held a three round DBA 3.0 theme tournament in Ann Arbor Michigan with four players.
Players each brought one Army or Ally and one Enemy of Late Imperial Rome (307AD-408AD). Players started each round by dicing for their choice of deploying an army or ally of Rome or an enemy of Rome.
1st place: Charlie Z (50 points) Best total score II/78 Late Imperial - East (27) II/67 Early Ostrogoth (23)
2nd place: Jim W (43 points) Best army or ally of Rome II/65 Visigoth (ally of Rome) (43) II/67 Early Ostrogoth (0)
3rd place: Steve M (27 points) Best enemy of Rome II/82 Patrician - West (1) II/72 Early Frankish (26)
4th place: Bob B (26 points) II/78 Late Imperial - East (1) II/26 Later Sarmatian (25)
Results of 6 battles: Rome & Allies (72 points) Enemies (74 points)
Scoring: Win: 20 points + captured - lost Loss: 1 point per element captured

Good idea. I have thought that a more interesting tournament format might be to ask players to bring two "historical" opponents.
First Round, you play your choice, second, you take the other army, switching player opponents so winners meet winners and losers meet losers.
(I can furnish four pairs of Marian or Polybian Romans and Gauls or Early Germans);
ideally the minimum would be four rounds with eight players, not always happening these days.
Round 3 & 4 players would change army pairs too.
