Hi
Been away for a considerable while. So...while I await my copy of DBA 3.0, could someone please tell me if the list for Central Asian City States (III/8) has changed since v2? Back then it was:
Steppe. Ag:0. (1x3Kn (Gen) + 5x3Kn) or (1x3Cv (Gen) + 5x3Cv), 1x2LH, 4x3Bw or 2Ps, 1x7Hd or 2Ps
Many thanks.
Cheers!

Thanks for that! So 3 Cv are now compulsory. Probably an option many players of this army would have taken anyway. And the 4 archers are all Bw. As I'm considering this army using your very own 24AP variant (coincidence!), I see some value in the spearmen Hd. The rest of the list pretty much takes care of itself, as I'd take the maximum of Kn allowed. Cheers

Cheers I built it for 2.2 a long time ago (Outpost Wargame Services figures) and had a successful tournament once using the 6 x cavalry version....the speed of the cav allowed them to redeploy and leave opponents facing thin air in places. However, as you hint at, the Kn have more punch. Haven’t gotten around to reworking it for v3...,add that to my “to do” list 😳

I think you will find the combination of 3Kn and Cv work well together. I have seen that with my Sassanid ‘a’ sub-list.
It may also be useful to have both 4Bw and 3Bw as both have their advantages depending on opponents and terrain.

"I built it for 2.2 a long time ago (Outpost Wargame Services figures)" I'm looking at the Khurasan figures and liking what I see. "It may also be useful to have both 4Bw and 3Bw as both have their advantages depending on opponents and terrain." Ooh, I hadn't noticed that. Nice one, thanks.

If I had to choose between 4Bw and 3Bw, I’d go 3Bw. They can race around, grab the ‘rough’ terrain the army has to use and deny it to the enemy while shooting as hard as poss... 🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹 I find the 4Bw not my stylee, and very slow in RG or BG. Khurasan are very nice....menacussecundus has them, I think? Denis?

So for me this looks like:
III/8 Central Asian States 500 – 1000 AD 1 x General (3Kn), 2 x Chakars (3Kn), 3 x dihqin (Cv), 1 x horse archers (LH), 4 x archers (3Bw), 1 x archers (Ps). Terrain Type: Steppe, Aggression: 0
That really is quite a nice looking army! Fast, flexible, enough punch, enough shooting and some light stuff for bad terrain. There is a lot to like with this army!

And they don't look half bad either...! Nice. Lancers for the 3Kn and mounted archers for the Cv.

And for those with modelling skills, you could add slung lances to the mounted archer Cv.

Thanks, "Snowcat" for posting those pics from Khurasan's CACS range. But you left out the Levy Spearmen figures for the all-important HORDE element! (Grins.) Here's the link. My CACS army is on-hand, but, so far, I've only started in on prepping the figures.

Interesting.
Looking at those Khurasan horse and the levy at the link Paul posted, I am thinking that the Minifig Khazar heavy horse archers, Asiatic heavy lancers, and Asiatic command combined with some VF/Asgard Sassanid archers and some AB Sassanid levy spear could make reasonable stand ins for the Central Asian City States.
Just need to look at what would work for the horse archers.
Although I still like the Outpost line. A bird in the hand...
