I have copied this over from my original post on the original Fanaticus forum.
Thought it may be of interest to new members here.
I am currently playing a mini solo campaign that focuses on Hastings. I use 2.2+ for the battles.
The campaign only deals with the Norman invasion. I have designed this so the Anglo Saxons are the non player army. It plays as follows.
Hastings is the first battle. Set up the Hastings terrain. Deploy the saxons along the hill. One blade element represents Harold the other two his brothers Leowfine and Gryth.
Deploy your Normans as for the actual battle. Bows in Front, Spears behind followed by Knights and Cavalry.
I used Bellis Solitarus for the solo battle mechanics. I made the following changes. These changes try to reflect that the Saxons must stay on the hill and keep formation.
Roll for PIP and tactics as normal. Use any PIP's and Consolidate or manouver tactic results to redress the line and fill any gaps. If an attack roll is made roll another dice. On a 4,5,6. The tactic can be ignored. If a 1 or 2 is rolled any element that is 3 MU from an enemy must move to engage it. This simulates the Saxons occasional charges to pursue the enemy.
Victory conditions are as normal. No camps are used.
To win the campaign the Normans must eliminate Harold and his brothers elements. If this is done at Hastings the Normans win the same decisive victory as they did in 1066. If any of the three brothers survive further battles are fought until all the are dead. So if Harold dies at Hastings but his brothers survive then another battle must be fought to eliminate them. In subsequent battles any element representing a brother killed in an earlier battle is just treated as a normal blade element.
If the Saxons kill William in any battle the campaign is a victory for them.
I have not included any rules for arritition. each battle fights with a full 12 elements a side.
I fought my first battle Hastings. Both Leowfine and Gryth were killed. The Saxons lost
4 elements to 3 but Harold survived so another battle is to be fought.
Hope others may enjoy this. I have played this campaign before and it can be great fun. The campaign can be over in a single battle or carry on for some time.
I would be interested in any improvements anyone can think of.
