Very well
Keith, I’ll give you the battle of Pharos, 219 BC, as a possible DBA type Littoral Landing.
But isn’t it a bit odd that the game designer chose to include rules to cover very rare events such
as Pharos, yet completely left out the far more common instances where
an entire army has to
fight their way ashore onto a defended beach, such as Caesar’s landing in Briton, Paulinus’ landing
In Anglesey, Richard the Lionheart’s landing at Jaffa, and the numerous seaborne invasions conducted
both in Europe and the Pacific during World War 2?
It’s like having a set of rules that covers the very rare night battles, but neglects to cover the day battles!
Of course, to represent whole armies storming a beach the following rules would probably be needed:-
* Ships can disembark their troops into a waterway providing these troops touch the beach...
* Troops in such shallow water can be recoiled or pushed back onto their ships...
* Those defending the landward beach facing the water will not pursue into the waterway...
* All troops in shallow water will automatically pursue their recoiled/fleeing/destroyed opponents...
* And if disembarked troops in such shallow water find themselves unopposed, they can make a river move.
Complicated? Not really...no more so than the current Littoral Landing rules are.
And at least it covers the far more common beach landings instead of just ignoring them.
(I would add all the above to the existing Littoral Landing rules as well)
