Don’t think this is a tournament as such, but the FB post suggested it was a
’drop in and play’ day of DBA at the Bennett Centre, Frome, UK, from 0930 on Saturday 3rd August, All welcome.

Martin, you are right. I'll be there (my 'local' club, albeit about 40+ miles away) as will Ian and possibly some others. There is a large pay and display car park within a few minutes walk of the centre - which used to be known as St John's Church Hall. Boards are available. The venue is a within a few minutes walk of Frome town centre where there are plenty of places to buy food and drink; coffee and tea is available on site for free. There is no entry charge, mainly because several members of the Frome club have donated their time free to help with the renovation of the centre.

Sounds like a fun day out, Steve. I’d love to come along, but it looks like I’m being dragged kicking and screaming back to work for the weekend (know where I’d RATHER be!!!)...
Have a great day, and write us all a report. Would love to know how it goes.

And I’m being dragged to an in-laws family party down Martin’s way otherwise I’d have come. Wish I was working!

Thanks to the Frome Club for an excellent day of DBA gaming. Not having played the game for several months I took the opportunity to remind myself of the rules before Britcon next Saturday. I took a box of Arab armies, Celtiberians and Early Armenians and played with them all, as well as with a loaned and beautifully painted Italian Condotta.
The historic venue was a real joy and with endless cups of tea and biscuits and the sound of 28mm Zulu impis massing in the background I played 6 interesting and close games (I’m sure at one point I heard Michael Cane’s distinctive voice barking an order). It was good to play against some new faces and interesting to see, yet again, how different groups of players play the game differently.
Thanks again everyone. It was a tedious journey getting to you but I will happily come again.
Colin

Well done for trekking, Colin. Glad you enjoyed it.
If the team who laid this on are doing so again, a little early notice and we might be able to send a car-full...

I think they meet and play DBA on the first Saturday of the month. 7th September would be the next gathering. I'm happy to go...I have an email for one of the DBA players and they seem to be more active on the DBA Facebook page.

Colin is right, the Frome sessions are scheduled for the first Saturday of each month and the hall is usually open from 9:30. I'll post a reminder nearer the time for the September meeting. There is sometimes space for one or two cars to park free on site but you'd need to get there very early to get in. There is a large shoppers car park within a few minutes walk - albeit up a short but very steep slope - which costs £5.90 for an all day ticket. I'll see if I can find out how much it costs for parking less than a day. There is a small car park adjacent to the site but that is only for short stays of up to 3 hours. If you can't get a space on site then what I do is to park in the adjacent car park and quickly unload my stuff into the hall - takes about 2 minutes - then move the car to the shoppers car park. This save lugging heavy boxes of figures/terrain up that steep slope. Tea and coffee are free on site and I think that there is a microwave oven you can use. There is easy access to Frome town centre where there are quite a few places to buy sandwiches, pies, pasties etc. If memory serves, there are at least four 2ftx2ft boards available - but I'll check to confirm. All are welcome. No admission charge. For those into scale models there is an excellent shop, again up a steep slope - within about a 5-10 minute walk. Search for Frome Model Centre and you should be able to access the website.

Thanks for the info, Steve. Good to hear that a club has an active DBA gang 👍🏻 Sept 7th (in the unlikely event that I get the day off...) may see me torn between Frome DBA and the (somewhat closer) Colours show at Newbury. Do you know if club members head to Colours, or is it a bit far?

Martin, thanks for reminding me about Colours. I had not realised that it clashed with Frome. I'll almost certainly be going to Colours especially now that I've given up on Warfare in Reading - too far in the winter gloom and not much more as regards traders. I'll check with the Frome DBAers and let you know.
Regards
Steve

There seems to be DBA most club meeting days now - which is the first Saturday of every month, bar July. Yesterday there were four playing in the morning (John had to go at lunchtime). Next year I will probably play DBA on selected meeting days if someone gives me notice, or if I am not running the main game (which tends to be some very violent naval game if it's one of mine).
