This one looks to be a "DBA" issue.

This one looks to be a "DBA" issue. The scenario geek in me wonders if there are any historical scenarios in this "DBA issue"? If so, I'll look for a copy at my local newsstand. (Grins.)

This one looks to be a "DBA" issue. Joe Collins I liked the practical solutions in your improving DBA article. I am minded to give them a go at the Bakewell matched pairs tournament in October! Simon

That would be a great play test!
I am pretty happy with the Ax and the Pike changes. Pydna and Chaeronea seem about right with these. Hannibal at Cannae still underperforms (the lack of troop grading the cause) but not the level of before. Brian Boru has a much better chance at Clontarf. The Swiss are tougher and now better to under take their historical course.
The shooting changes need a lot more testing. HYW fights are certainly better. Persians vs Greeks are now much less of a pushover. My main worry however is with all those other bow armies in other periods...
Time will tell.
Paul:
My copy hasn't yet arrived... but I know that there is a DBA campaign in this issue. Scenarios or not... joining the SOA is well worth the price. Oh, I plan to submit some DBA Scenarios in future issues...

I think that Slingshot magazine is just mailed to members of the Sociiety of Ancients. You could order it as a back issue in due course and they also do a CD of back copies. www.soa.org.uk/joomla/slingshotSimon

Interesting but... What happened to proper editing. Bows do not 'fire' lack of care in that department makes me wonder about the whole idea.

Just that one major error (but one I often point out myself), or more to cast doubt. Perhaps sentences without proper punctuation?

Using "Firing" when referring to any torsion weapon shooting is one of the many things I find very irritating!
Rather like when an historical character in an film, TV production or book uses the word "Okay".

I have this memory of somebody in a wargame forum online posting a quote from the 1500s where arrows were 'fired'.

But we should not value the suggestions based on this old saw. One looses or shoots an arrow but if you say "fire" its still clear what you mean ("fire" comes from matchlocks which we no longer use but we still say "fire" a gun even though setting it on fire has nothing to do with its current operation).
We should judge them on there gaming merit.

Very nice! Is slingshot available as a pdf download on their site? I didn’t see it, and would love it in that format if possible. Either way I’ll order it can’t wait to read it. Will go great with the historical battles for dba 3.0, and probably Stevie coming publication.. Off to fire some bows and detonate a catapault or two Chris “burned all his grammar credits just trying to read DBA in the first place” Milne

Unfortunately, no. Slingshot is currently “hard copy” only. There have been debates among the Society of Ancients committee about making it available in a digital format, but so far I think it was back-burnered (fear of piracy type stuff, possibly?). What IS available is a cd-rom of all Slingshots from 1965 to 2015). It’s a veritable mine of information. See www.soa.org.uk/joomla/slingshot-back-issuesFrom the same link if you go to ‘publications’ there’s a DBA quick ref sheet, a good one, and free www.soa.org.uk/joomla/publications
