You've been extremely busy and productive CarlL. Well done that man.

I particularly like the horse archer elements, both the Hinchcliffe and the SKT.

Thank you for the feedback. It is fun to paint. And fun to share ideas, photos of figures and scratch build ideas, especially when there isn't a weekly (or even monthly) club to do this face to face. My wife might say I have become OCD in my retirement. But now I don't have to work, and I am not a tv fan nor computer / social media geek, I am free to do a few hours each day. My painting style is basic but en masse the armies look ok. And I am not needing cash to buy figures having both a lead mountain (or boxes of unfinished projects in 6mm, 15mm, 20mm and 25mm) many of which I bought when working and my projects got 'marooned' as I worked or young family commitments or I was too tired after work to paint. I was also lucky to 'inherit' many projects when friends changed scales or lost interest and passed on projects, so 1/3 of my Byzantines are what I bought and rest donations! It seems a pity that many of the links, here, to painted figures are FB links, (I assume already known to FB DBA members) rather than viewable here, but that's an old record. CarlL

CarlL I dropped off FB a while ago (too much stupidity & politics--often one & the same), but since the DBA/HOTT community aside from this forum seems to be there, I poke my nose in occasionally to see what's up. Then quietly back out and close it down.

Well my basing is progressing but not yet complete with new Arab Cm, or 9 new Byzantine Cv (bow) or 5 LH (bow). Meanwhile I have completed painting on 8 bases of Skutatoi for my Byzantines, although 4 bases till waiting on transfers adding to shields and same four yet to be glued to bases too! So likely have these and Cm / cavalry / LH all done on Friday. I now remember why I gave up on Airfix kit decals and later bought but never used shield deals / transfer till now, 19 plus years later; too damn fiddly. To my credit I got 16 shield transfers done on Wednesday morning but took me 2 hours and nearly wrecked a couple!! Results to be photo'd and shared this weekend. CarlL

Agree but easier than hand painting . I find Microsol and Microset solutions useful and something to hold the figure as a third hand almost essential - currently an oasis block with the figure on a crocodile clip on a stick. Or you could try asking family members or pets to hold the figure instead….

Ken, spot on with a third hand! I managed to couch individual foot figures in palm of my left hand, and bring the transfer with my right hand, then use thumb on left hand to hold top edge of decal in place, so right hand could slide decal off paper into place. Martin, I agree with varnishing before applying decal. I have used craft acrylic gloss varnish (left to dry of course) as it helps slide decal into place. Ken, I haven't tried the solutions you mention, but found if I dabbed my right hand index finger in clean solution of water and washing liquid then used this finger to slide decal it was less likely to to stick to my finger or screw up. When it occasionally wrinkled up, I found dabbing my finger either in water or in the above solution (which I usually use to clean brushes between colour changes) then dabbing on the decal helped it unwrinkle!! The clean paper kitchen towel then used to remove all this liquid and secure decal in place. After its all dry, I then re-varnish with matt acrylic (craft) varnish - in UK brand like 'Miniature Paints' - just to help protect decal and matt as I like matt finish. If you don't get to UK shows you may not know about this useful paint range see gamescraft.co.uk/paints/miniature.html CarlL

Who finds Summer time a distraction from painting their minis?lol
I finally sat down and finished my first batch of 6x3Bd for a Sea People's army.Ive never found myself so disinterested and distracted from painting an army for a long time now and have been able to plan and complete armies in a short space of time. I've still been lifting a paint brush and working on scenery, but I've been nothing anywhere near as productive as last year..
Anyway, six elements down....on with the next batch of six...3×3Ax & 3x2Ps.
Maybe these won't take as long to do.😂

Never mind tomorrow Mrs G is taking no.3 daughter wedding dress shopping so my Bosphorans won’t know what’s hit them - unless I get left a list of course😉.

Mind I had a half-descent excuse yesterday as I took the family to Alnwick Castle(Hogwarts) and added in the battle site of Malcombs Cross(1093) just North of the Castle, then I cut the lawn when I got back so I could free this morning to paint as today's work included a doorbell installation that wasn't delivered until pm.😁

Busy Haardrada.
And the heat (and stick air) has been sapping too. (From a north of England perspective at least!)

CarlL We've had a good week here Carll thanks, topped by a visit to Alnwick Castle and a nearby battle site on Friday....I did chuckle at the book promotion at the castle for "The Lions of the Red Rose"...a history of the Percy family during the War of the Roses....given that the 4th Earl had sided with the Yorkists and his dubious if not treacherous behaviour at the Battle of Bosworth.😂
