Then I dug out some second-hand figures I bought years ago, of 25mm Lamming origin, and gave them a complete make over. I wanted to create some Late Roman archers to support my Legions and these Lamming Byzantine figures looked the part. But there were only 14 figures, and I wanted to build a larger force, so I drafted in 4 SKT 25mm Byzantine archers, and a Hinchliffe 25mm ‘Roman’ officer, and added a lonely ‘S Range’ Minifigs Late Roman standard bearer. I wanted to create a cohort of skirmishers with a stand of close order around the standard. I looked to AEIR for another Eastern Roman archer cohort, but I could only find ‘Sagittarii Iuniores Orientales’. So it shouldn’t take long for you to realise my mistake matching these figures with this name. CarlL

During my searching in my lead pile, I found 22 second-hand BIG Lamming 25mm Roman Legion figures all painted but mostly in two hues one green and one red-brown; but they had character and much of the painting was good wargames standard (like mine). So I thought lets tone down this gloss varnish (with matt), and revisit / re-paint: sword hilts, leather work and spears (including shortening them) and re do the flesh. Then I added 2 Warrior 25mm figures, a centurion and a musician, from my lead pile and painted them to fit in. And another 24 figure cohort was born! (Or another 6 elements of psiloi bows and one of bows for late Romans or Palmyran allies!) Ready for my next TtS game, but element based so useful for DBx too (and Armati)!! CarlL

Then I found another group of neglected figures that I had primed way back after purchase at a wargames trade fair. My 28mm purchases are quite limited, but I have a few in my ‘lead mountain’ which includes these early Greek heavy cavalry from 1st Corps. So they got painted at last. I had 8 figures so for now two are painted but awaiting a companion to join them. (I have put in an order from Essex for one of their "28mm" Greek generals.) Here are the others based and ready to go. (Unlike the 28mm hoplites still unpainted!) CarlL

All done and based....III/40d Viking Leidang. Note the army is portrayed slightly later than the "Viking era" style most would be used to,but can easily be used as any but the list (a) version of the army.I did this because I wanted an army that wouldn't look out of place in 12th century either enemies or allies of Medieval Germans or Pre-Feudal Scots. www.facebook.com/share/p/1EyoojaSBf5hEKVt/

Haardrada,
Well done. I couldn't get your link to work. Was I wrong to think its a shared link rather than link to private access for FB members only? (I am not on FB.)

Very impressive, ESPECIALLY for a first go at 15mm! 👍🏼👍🏼

Super work malory. Not my usual period, but I am very tempted to follow your lead. Welcome to the Forum, by the way.

Nice work on those old school figures carli. Particularly with Romans and other formed troops I like single pose figures. More of a 'disciplined array' effect.
That is a nice interpretation of a later Scandinavian army you have there Haardrada. Amusingly my brother and I had watched 'The Last King' set in the 13th C and I was amused at a later date to see Lillehammer coat of arms and flag. In the film the costumes and arms were the 'traditional' tunics and furs or later plate reinforced harnesses. The Lillehammer arms inspired by the escape that is the subject of the film show a more traditional kite shield, mail hauberk, and conic helm. More in keeping with your interpretation.
Well, malory, for your first post that is a knockout!!! Beautiful work...
As to my latest, just finished up (need basing and I am a bit shot of those at this time) those 32 Essex MIOD74 Heavy Billmen. Generic colors, I may add end up adding St. George crosses on three elements for my HYW English. 11 of the figures have a rather 'Italianate' look to them with barbute helmets and a knee length gambeson. Pity the various Italian armies don't have a polearm element.
