More good progress with the Ghaznavids and Kanaaj.Ive split the painting of the army into groups and aim to do each group within a week to two weeks depending on real life interventions. So far it's working, the first group of six elements are done and the second batch of 8 elements are sure to be completed this week.π€
The third batch of 6x3Cav plus and extra element of 3Cav for my Black Sheep Timurid allies will be the real test.
Group 4 is the elephants and 3xLH elements and Group 5 are additional Rajput and Indian Cav elements.
My aim on completion is to finnish the Ghaznavid army both (a)&(b) lists, finnish an option to morph my III/10 Hindus to play option (a) Kanaaj and also add a Black Sheep allied contingent to my Timurid army.

Iβm back to painting Ancients after a 15 month, 2,000 piece stint building a Napoleonic Austrian army. The Numidian allies to complete my Marian Romans were finished yesterday.
Gauls, Ancient British and Galatians now on the painting table - I was very disappointed at the number of figures I can reuse between these armies; they each seem to use a different type of Aux be it 3Ax or 4Ax or Gaesati (naked) or clothed; so itβs only the mounted and Ps that get to be reused. Hence, the extra troops needed to make up the Brits and Galatians were an emergency order from Xyston that now need painting.

On subject of method painting ... do people have favourite strategies?
Recently, I have been working from background to foreground and using dark / black wash to begin with then dry brushing over with main features (eg darkest skin tone for my Africans recently then build up layers of lighter (max 3 recently) then add details; or with current Arab swordsmen, blocking in various coat colours as groups (eg dark blue, reddish clay, dark green) then dry brushing on top lighter highlights related to base colour, then adding skin tones (two) then adding details. Got 39 Arab 25mm swordsmen finished (painting not based) and another 18 (roughly speaking .. I have lost count!) ready for final details like hair. Its been fun. Mind I did start these figures in 1980s! De-flashed and white primer mostly then got them out again about 4 years ago and decided dark wash would be better to bring out details! Then back in box incomplete! They began life as planned second line (between spearmen and archers) for a local set of rules being played in early 1980s. When these went out of favour the project got shelved. Now nearly done.... just need to revamp the rest of the figures many still on individual bases or DBA version 1 bases! Like my archers... CarlL

But good ones! All power to your painting mojo.... CarlL Thanks Carll, I'm on a roll this year as this is my third army under the brush. The Kanaaj Sp elements were ons of a few add ons or extra elements that are hanging around to complete by adding them in here and there I complete other work without loosing time on army projects.I've also added a Black Sheep Cav element to batch 3 of the Ghaznavids so can I can complete an allied contingent for my Timurids. By setting myself a time period of a week to complete each batch I motivate myself to finish the army in a reasonable time period...if I slip by a few days it's no big deal. What also is helping my current project is that I'm recovering from a knee replacement op and it's a good distraction.π
