I have recently been assembling and painting a number of English Civil War plastic figures from Warlord.
I am now left with a mini mountain of plastic sprues. I have removed spare weapons etc for my odds and ends box. Some sprue parts I can use when scratch building scenery. But what to do with the rest?
I am unsure if they can be recycled.
Might be a good idea if manufacturers of plastic figures/kits etc gave advice re re-cycling or had a system where the sprues could be returned for possible re use.
I am no eco warrior but I like to do my bit.
Last week I made a purchase in a shop and had no bag so I stumped up the princely sum of 5p for a plastic carrier bag.
"We have to charge 5p now sir, as that bag will take 200 years to break down" said the pimply faced youth serving me who had an air superiority over his 60+ year old customer whom he seemed to hold personally responsible for the destruction of the planet.
"Really!" I replied "Whoever would have thought that! Because by the time I have walked to my planet polluting Land Rover the bag will be in tatters and on the verge of collapse!"

Ah - I remember the good old days in the 70s when I would stretch sprues over a candle to make tank radio aerials or spear shafts etc! The other option was a drug-induced high by mixing the sprue with liquid plastic cement to make a plastic filler!

In relation to plastic recycling. There was a section on TV a while ago.
Er indoors is always on to me about putting wrong type of plastic in the recycle bin. On the show an expert said if unsure better to put it in than not put it in. I was willing to take that as 100% legit so in it all goes.
My sprue's sit for years in drawer, get handed round chums, cut up like bricks to go into rubble pot and eventually chucked in recycle bin.

I make army carriers to facilitate moving troops around between games. I have both foam core and card board squares, and I glue sprues around the perimeter to keep the fellows from sliding off if. I did use thin balsa, but that costs money:) I had lots of sprue sitting around.
