Although I still have three armies to paint up, I have been looking into getting some figures to do up the Lydians I/50.
In reading up on them, I noticed that they were regarded as being formidable archers.
Since the official army list does not have any Bw elements, I decided I am going to tweak the army list for my in-house Lydians.
Not a major tweak, but will give the player the option of having them on the board, if they so wish:
Official List 1 x LCh or 3Kn (General) 2 x 3Kn 2 x LH 4 x Sp or 4Ax 3 x Ps
My tweaked list 1 x LCh or 3Kn (General) 2 x 3Kn 2 x LH 4 x Sp or 4Ax 3 x Ps or 3Bw
Just thought I would share.

I've always thought of 3Bw as "Heavy" Ps, so it makes sense

I urge caution around "archers". Remember that the DBx model has Bow as archers who fire en masse, volleys, on command. It is entirely possible in the scale and representation of DBA for "formidable archers" to be 3Ax, Ps, heck even 4Ax.
Not saying you guys are wrong, not by any means, but it bears thinking about. Would "superior" 3Ax perhaps suit your in-house model more?
That said, given that the Lydians fought horse-based armies, I suspect having them declared formidable in that context suggests you guys are right, and 3Bw is the better model. Just thought I'd mention it.

One thing I have done with Persian Takabara, given that Essex depicts them as having the standard Persian bow and quiver, is to give them shooting of 2 vs foot, 3 vs mounted, but they cannot combine shooting except with other Takabara ... So 3Ax that shoot!
Of course, Alex Macs are already pretty nerfed under 3.0 compared to history, so you may not want to do that. But it gave a very interesting element type.

Yep, you hit the nail on the head for one of the reasons why I wanted to give the Lydians some Bw... It seems they had quite a bit of success against the Cimmerians, and thought the tweak would reflect this.

Hi, against the Cimmerians they also had quite some succes using war dogs. They can be used to represent the psiloi. Cheers B

I just remembered I have TWO armies of these guys to do. One from Chariot and another from Falcon. I don't think I am ever going to get to them since they are a Book 1 army.

He did come to one show in Orlando about 2013 or so and I bought some figs from him. I do not think they are still in business.

Really look the part.

I wonder if we could do a trade? I have quite a few Essex Polish and Eastern European medieval figures. Lots and lots of knights. I was actually thinking of posting the figures I have (was going to do up a Wallachian army), on for trade or for sale. I will make a list if you are interested.
