I am building an Alexandrian Imperial force and I see that pike and Aux can be solid or fast but I cannot find out how to determine which my units should be? Can anyone help with this please.
Thanks.

Al Here are a few comparisons: Solid Pike is 4Pk Fast Pike is 3Pk Solid Aux is 4Ax Fast Aux is 3Ax Solid Bows are 4Bw, 4Lb, 4Cb, 8Bw, 8Lb, 8Cb Fast Bows are 3Bw, 3Lb, 3Cb Solid Blades are 4Bd Fast Blades are 3Bd Solid Warband is 4Wb Fast Warband is 3Wb Some troops are always FAST (Psiloi for example.) I don't have my rule book handy, but I'd look on the page that states what size bases/how many figures the troop types have.

For that army, the pike elements are solid (4Pk) and the single Ax element can be either fast or solid. (Your choice.)

Use solid for Hypaspists and fast for Thracians and such.

..a good example are the early Slavs emerged from historical obscurity when the westward movement of Germans in the 5th and 6th centuries AD (thought to be in conjunction with the movement of peoples from Siberia and Eastern Europe: Hunnic tribes, Avars & Bulgars) started the great migration of the Slavs, who settled the lands abandoned by Germanic tribes fleeing the Huns and their allies. Usually Slavs fought as auxiliary with javelins. In DBA terms most Slavs emerged after 800 AD to spearmen. But the Croats 2/26b did not. In version 3 they are solid auxilia (4ax)…

In version 3 they are solid auxilia (4ax)… The difference may be due to the enemies they encountered as well as the geography in which they fought.
Shield walls would be useful against Vikings and the mounted armies of the Empire while solid auxilia would have less a problem moving about the mountain terrain of the Balkans.
