Thanks to the 12 players who turned out for the Britcon DBA Tournament. The theme was about who would have ruled the ancient world 2000 years ago if the Romans had no longer been around in the 1st century BC and early in the 1st century AD. This meant that players could bring along any DBA v3 army that is listed as an enemy of the Marian and Early Imperial Romans II/49 and II/56. but no Romans, not even as allies. Congratulalions to Colin O'Shea and his Bosporans for coming first.. The final rankings were as follows with quite a few ties being sorted by taking into accound sum of opponents scores and then ties after that by net equivalents elements killed. - Colin O'Shea Bosporan II/25
- Chris Ager Meroitic Kushite I/58
- Patrick Dale Meroitic Kushite I/58
- John Saunders Commagene II/44
- Mark Johnson Bosporan II/25
- Tim Rogers Commagene II/44
- Phil Steele Bosporan II/25
- Mark Skelton Nabateans II/22a
- Baldie Storey Bosporan II/25
- Stevie Andrews Galatian II/30b
- Pete Buriak Gallic II/11
- Colin Alcock Thracian I/48
It was good to welcome three new players to the tournament scene - Stevie Andrews, Pete Buriak and Colin Alcock.
The next "oop North" gig will be the Bakewell Matched pairs on 12 October.

Simon Sure did, I showed her the £15 bargain box DBA forces the kind Mr Skelton pointed out but the others are distributed around the area in heavy cammo. The Arabs are great.

Ancient Spanish DBA force Scythian's DBA force
Then got a file box of Arabs generic enough to my eyes to do all kinds of DBA, Lart, HC and Impetus forces.
Some could do with a bit of TLC but certainly good enough to go as is.

Be interested to hear about the make-up of the 4 Bosporan armies and what options people ran with 😎

Clearly after getting my Bosporans slaughtered at the last Bakewell event I had started a craze.
Mine were Cav General, 4 x Knights, 2 x Fast Bow, 2 x Solid Aux, 2 x Psiloi and 1 x Light Horse Couple of games were close but I just got out played by better generals.

Interesting - I would go for Sp over solid Ax in that mix... Did anyone chance the Kn Gen? P.

Paulisper - agree with Sp over Ax, especially with the low aggression, but aren’t you then tempted to go for 3 x Sp to get a higher chance of retaining flank support. However, I think the big question for the Bosphorans is whether you bolster the shooting and go for the Artillery or not?

I would just like to thank everybody for a really enjoyable day at the Britcom tournament... ...or should it be called the Bosporan’s day out!. I for some unfathomable reason turned up with a II/30b Galatian army, with no Blades or SCh, which is really an anti-blade army, even though I knew there would be no Romans in sight. (Doh! Talk about bringing a knife to a gunfight...I had nothing to counter all the Knights I faced). My first battle against Mark’s Bosporan’s was over quickly when three Knights littorally landed on my left and made short work of my chariots. Now I knew it was coming, but I had forgotten to look at the Bosporan army lists to see exactly what it was that was coming. That, and the fact that my first three combat dice were all ‘1’s’ ended the matter. My second battle was against Phil with yet another Bosporan army. He didn’t make a littoral landing...well, he didn’t need to...his five Knights (yes, FIVE!) slaughtered the pathetic attempts of my poor chariots and cavalry to slow him down. We actually spent more time in debating on whether his beautiful galley camp could be placed outside the deployment zone so that it touched the waterway than we spent on playing this game! Next was Tim with his Commagene’s...which was a nice change as he only had two cataphract 4Kn. But the result was the same: my 4WB killed one of his Pikes, and my pair of chariots (led by my general) charged into his 3Bw...which had a high chance of being being successful, had I not rolled sooo low! My Galatians did mange to beat Colin’s loaned Thracians and Pete’s 3Wb Gauls, but these two players are new to DBA, and I’m sure that they will do much better next time we meet. So the only person who really deserves to be at the bottom of the table is ME! Still, it was all good fun. And I’ve now developed a strategy to neutralize littoral landings, which was kindly tested by Baldie, so they won’t ever trouble me again. Mind you, I must remember to bring at least something, anything will do, to counter Knights in the future. Thanks again everybody, and I am really looking forward to the next encounter.

Stevie, you were a brave man to take the Galatian's to that fight, particularly eschewing the Bd option... P
