Has anyone tried this? I think double ranks of figures would look great!

If you use 20mm depth bases for heavy foot it is possible to have double rank elements in 15mm. In fact Eric Donaldson and, if I'm not mistaken, Paul Hannah have in some instances have achieved triple ranks.
Cheers,

It never occurred to me to try that, I just thought it wouldn't fit. Thanks Gregorious!

It never occurred to me to try that, I just thought it wouldn't fit. Thanks Gregorious! It depends, of course, on the size and, especially, the pose of the figures. Yes, as Gregorious said, my friend, Eric Donaldson, created this phalanx of Seleucid pikemen by mounting three ranks of 15mm Essex pikemen on 40x20 bases, a total of 12 figures per base. The optionally deeper bases in "Purple" created the opportunity, but the straight-up, static pose of the Essex pikers made it possible. (Shields all hand-painted, by the way.) He has done similarly for his just-completed, Later Swiss (Khurasan), but I haven't seen them yet. Will post pics when I do. We know it's not for everyone, and, really, he and I don't double or triple rank everything. But, when it seems appropriate, sure. For us, it's all about the look.

But as to Wyverns original question about 15mm on 60mm BW - Paul and I have several armies for RRR using that basing scheme. We coined it the EPIC look. And it does look super. We play on a 3'x3' board and use 60mm as BW. No rule changes. I also have many Napoleonic armies on 60mm bases for DBN, HF&G or DBA-HX. Drawbacks are WAY more figures to paint and limited opponents. I'll try and get Paul to post a few pictures later.

Here's a view of how this looks. A RRR game of 15mm figures, mounted on 25mm-scale bases. RRR Ottomans vs. Moghuls (all 15mm Mikes Models) based on 60mm wide bases. In this particular game, my Turkish bombards took out three Jumbos with a single die-roll. Oh, and for this "EPIC" look, I find that biggie-sized dice are a must. (Grins.)

I'm seriously considering it as I'm a solo gamer mainly so it doesn't matter about sticking to conventions. Looking forward to seeing some pictures if you get the chance! Cheers, Paul.

Paul, I really like the pictures, thanks for posting them! I'm amazed by the shields that were hand painted. The 'epic' look might just be for me! I totally agree with you, the esthetics are important, it really adds to the flavour of the game😀
