This is my latest project which I began this month and features the painting of a consular army and the campaigns in Hispania during the 2nd century BC.
The link will take you to the blog and read about this. dbagora.blogspot.nl/2016/05/project-rome-post-2nd-punic-war.html Future topics will cover a select number of enemies, construction projects and the campaign designed for the period.

The consular army in battle array. All Roman and Latin legions are finished and can be seen at the blog. Looking at the finished collection I just may add more Latin auxilia and cavalry to bring their numbers up to historical levels.
Spanish troops should be arriving next week and these will build four armies for all the sub-lists plus options.
While waiting for the order to arrive I will have time to write a timeline covering the campaigns in Spain following the 2nd Punic War as chronicled by Livy. I should be able to squeeze a number of maps for possible campaigns.

The campaign system. Here is a brief glimpse into the campaign system and from the photo you can see counters that were quickly made for the initial tests. I will post observations of the initial testing on my next post but I can say that I am very pleased with the results so far.
I have sent out a request for play testers of the campaign rules and a number are reviewing the rules.
More volunteers would be welcomed.

The Iberians. I am about halfway through painting the two Iberian commands. Detailing and highlighting I will plan for tomorrow and they will be ready for varnishing. While those are drying, I can begin cleaning and basing the last two command of Celtiberian and Lusitanian.

These two armies are complete and now ready for battle.

Spanish commands in battle array.
All four commands can be viewed at the blog and I am pleased that these are done in quick tempo.

Next week there will be more play testing of the campaign rules and necessary re-writes. I will also have time to begin construction of a hill top village for the project.

...as i like to field light troops i often use a spanish army. Also for DBM. In Bad Usach (Germany) I was not too poor with that army. But it is not any winner army... you have to fight hard...

...as i like to field light troops i often use a spanish army. Also for DBM. In Bad Usach (Germany) I was not too poor with that army. But it is not any winner army... you have to fight hard... I plan to write three scenarios, each set in a different area of Spain and taking place at different times.
Each consul has a term of one year in which to prove himself, so goals are not set very high as the time period is relatively short. However, in that brief time a lot can go wrong for Rome.
I should be able to demonstrate some of the intricacies of the campaign and how the Spanish can take advantage of stratagems to level the playing field.

...is a good idea, but the home terrain is allways Spain, is it??? As Rome is the aggressor in the campaign they will be fighting tribes in either "Hilly" or "Arable" terrain. However, it is possible for a Roman command to be attacked while traversing a "Hilly" zone.
So yes, the "home terrain" is defined by which map square battle takes place.

Tomorrow I shall post a campaign test scenario with photos illustrating the Roman and Spanish phases.
One month was played and already we have seen failed diplomacy, embezzlement, a lost supply column and a hostile Iberian tribe chaffing at the bit for battle.
That battle report will follow soon.
