Hey folks.
Many of you would know that in the past I have frequented these forums a bit but a year or two ago I took some time away from DBA to focus on WW2 wargaming (Bolt Action). I am a member of a club in Sydney that plays a range of war games now and was wondering if there are any remaining Sydney DBA gamers that might be interested in coming to the club meet in West Ryde to play?

HelloObadiah,
I am member of Sutherland Gamers, although I live at Campsie. Our numbers of DBA players have dwindled and now it is hard to get a game. west Ryde would also be a bit of a trip but may be possible.
What is the name of your club? When do you meet?
regards,
Robert

Hi Robert. The club is called Company of Dice. They have two groups. One meets in West Ryde (where I generally attend) and one in Padstow. Both meet on Saturday once a month. Additionally I am aware of a sub group that meets in Coogee (I believe) who play ancients. They tend to play a bit of BBDBA, Sword and Spear, Impetus V2 and Saga. They meet on a Wednesday.
I am keen to try to introduce DBA to some folks at CoD West to see if I can get a few players there.

Hi again Obadiah,
I actually joined the Company of Dice facebook page a couple of months ago lol.
Sadly, Saturdays are generally not good for me. Our club meets Friday nights, for which I get a once a month leave pass from the wife.
Still, its good to know there is another DBA player in Sydney, and if I ever get a Saturday free I will leave a message for you here.
All the best.

somecallmetim,
As a member of Sutherland Gamers you may be aware of MOAB (October long weekend)? On the Sunday at MOAB is a multi player DBA campaign, quite different to the usual tournament. All playing on the one large table, with random seating so you don't fight the same neighbours, and all with similar armies, the campaign is great fun. The past few years have seen Mongol and Samurai themes. This year's theme is King of the Steppe, you can field any Steppe army to take on all comers.
I would encourage you to put it in your diary and keep an eye out for its promotion and registration.
Cheers.

Hello spitzicles,
I see you are in Melbourne. If you ever been to MOAB we have met, although I can’t remember a Victorian.
For you see, I have been to MOAB many years, and have the MOAB dice to prove it lol.
It’s a personal thing, I don’t like the tournament theme that dominates MOAB the last couple of years. Everyone has the same army, in my opinion it’s boring. It was a lot better when we played with large maps of medieval Europe or the Roman Empire, and so on, and everyone was different.
I have been one of a handful of Sydney based players at Moab, and last year was the only player actually from the club. Most players are from out of Town.. The original post was about DBA players in Sydney. There are not too many of left.
I won’t be playing at Moab this year. It used to be historical pairs on the Saturday and a great campaign on the Sunday. During the “great schism” there was one year where there was seperate 2.2 and 3 comps. despite the situation of 2 rival comps, the comps for 3 were great, selecting 1 different army from a different book each day.
Apparently this year a complete historical competition won’t be held, replaced by limited theme competition, armies that are psoloi heavy I think, or something like that.
Also have to say in my opinion some of the players get a little intense and some of the more darker aspects of tournament play were out last year.
Very sad. Used to look forward to it each year. Steve Webb from the club, who used to grace these pages often, was the organiser for many years and it was always inclusive and a great success. But sadly he has moved onto other things, albeit still within Moab.

I have attended MOAB on Sunday for the past 3 years. Saturday is a horrible clash with the AFL grand final, which I prefer to watch - especially when my team is in it! I also don't have any historically matched armies. In 2019 I'll be playing both days because the AFL grand final is the weekend before MOAB.
So we probably have met.
I am currently in Victoria, but in 2016 and 2017 I drove up from Canberra.
The Four Emperors campaign in 2016 was interesting but I found the campaign rules irksome. Once you were a vassal you had little control over your move, found it difficult to break free, and were pretty much out of the running for victory in the campaign. I recognise that all armies being the same can be boring, but I find the large number of players on a single table great fun.
I am looking forward to this year's Wimp Wars (no less than 6 elements of LH and/or PS in an army) because my Armenians (currently 0-13) may finally get a win. On both days there should be a good range of armies, and as usual the better players will rise to the top.
