I placed an order with TimeCast Miniatures today and recieved a confirmation of despatech several hours later. Fantastic service.
Now a Heads Up A second order was placed today for Black Hat miniatures which are now carried by Fighting 15s. I am aware that these are cast to order but thought it wise to read the delivery, terms and conditions sections.
As the Brexit date nears, the online shop will close from 15 March 2019 to 15 April 2019 “to account for the likely change in cross-border tax law that will cause complications with international orders.”
Any plans to expand your armies you may want to hasten them along.

I am hoping there is not too much disruption to the supply of model soldiers for us here on the Continent! I am chucking all of my toys out of the pram if there is!

What? Stop toy soldier supplies! Now BREXIT is getting serious! Who voted for that? Luckily I have managed to build up a big enough stockpile and so have a decent backstop in case border chaos bungs up the 15mm pipeline.

Me too, just ordered some odds and ends from Outpost miniatures to help complete a few armies (Hindu,Rajput,Tamil etc.lol)....oh and another army.

Salutations, gentlefolk,
Ordered some books from pen-and-sword.co.uk over weekend (winter sale), no trouble.
Been wondering if Blexit would affect exchange rate, make things from Merrie Olde cheaper for us with dollars, so have been scribbling up wishlists...
The future lies ahead ... Hope you UK'ers can settle things before people start getting hurt.

The problem arises because Fighting 15s is registered for VAT. This raises the possibility that an EU customer could order from Fighting 15s before Brexit (B-day) and pay VAT on their order, but that order might not be dispatched until after B-day. If the tax regime changes on B-day because of a no-deal Brexit or because the U.K. goes outside the customs union, then that order may well have tax charged on it again on import, and the customer will be charged tax twice. From my understanding of EU trading laws, I can’t shut the shop to only Continental EU customers before B-day: I have to remain open to all customers (UK and EU) or shut to all. The issue does not arise for non-VAT registered businesses, so lots of small U.K. toy soldier businesses will not be affected. For them it is simpler: before B-day their orders to the EU have no tax: after B-day their orders get taxed on import at typically 20%+ plus a handling charge for the customer. So in the event of the U.K. dropping out of the customs union their figures simply will be more expensive. it is already clear to me that a lot of customers are thinking in advance and ordering now. The planned closure period is to allow me to get affected orders out the door before the tax situation changes. However, as this month has already shown, I can get too many orders to process, the only solution to which is a short, temporary closure to get back on top.

Since Christmas break I've been indeed accelerating my plans and purchasing the miniatures I need from British manufacturers before the end of March just to avoid the uncertainty, too, within my money constraints. I understand that the situation must be a mess from the shop side - however it is resolved, it may lead to lots of paperwork and Continental customers having to pay extra taxes and walking away angry, perhaps some demanding refunds. And we still have no idea of what will happen in two-and-a-half months time

I understand that the situation must be a mess from the shop side - however it is resolved, it may lead to lots of paperwork and Continental customers having to pay extra taxes and walking away angry, perhaps some demanding refunds. And we still have no idea of what will happen in two-and-a-half months time For Fighting 15s’ EU customers, the no-deal/out of the customs union result would simply shift where tax is charged - moving from in the shop to on import. The down side of that is the typical 10euro handling charge delivery services charge for collecting that tax: I wrote about this in April 2016 on my personal blog ( orun.wordpress.com/2016/04/), and it is that charge that will deter customers. It’s why I get orders from Norway or Switzerland for under the VAT threshold, and very rarely a large order from those countries. The issue is not about extra trade tariffs but simply about the mechanics and costs of collecting VAT. Unfortunately, the VAT threshold in many EU countries is only around 15euro, and there’s are talks about scrapping it altogether so that any order regardless of size would therefore attract VAT on import and a handling fee.

Ouch - I'll have to work duties out carefully in the future.

I assume that all this VAT concern is over mail order only and won’t impact Salute etc. Is that correct?

Will there be a limited allowance, like for cigarettes?
"Sir, you carry five DBA armies with you; as you know, the limit for personal use is a historically matched pair. I'm afraid I'm going to impose a fine for failing to declare them."
