Humble apologies for my tardiness in getting this information into the public forum.
The 2019 DBA3.0 Welsh Open will indeed happen again at the Penarth Wargamers show CRUSADE on Saturday 26th January 2019. Once again the venue is St Cyres school on the edge of Penarth. Doors open at 10:00am with registration until 10:45am. Fee will be your entry to the show plus £1.
The tournament is fully open i.e. bring any legal army, (or even two if you’d like to switch for the plate), and you don’t have to be Welsh. The plan is to continue with the standard format of a ‘world cup’ qualification of three rounds. Four players will qualify for the finals, all of whom will be guaranteed a trophy. Meanwhile the others will be entered into a three round swiss tournament for the plate competition. Half hour rounds with a points system.
While Magister Militum will not be attending the show they have agreed to continue as sponsors of the tournament and I am most grateful for them doing that.
Basically you can just turn up on the day but it would be good if you could indicate your intention to attend.

I am bringing a Welshman and his friends .....in 15mm form 😊 Alan, thanks very much for updating us. Glad it’s going ahead. At the moment we have somewhere between four and six from the Hampshire neck of the woods. Will confirm numbers once we finalise the car pool scenario. cheers Martin (shame about Mag Mil......)

I'm hoping to be there this year.
I'd quite like to use one of my 6mm armies (based on the 15mm bases). Would this be allowed?

I hope to be there. A new local player is likely to be there too.

I guess so long as the bases are correct for 15mm it would be okay. Yet another form of openness for the tournament? Does anyone else have a view?

Menacussecundus' 6mm armies are always a pleasure to see on the table, and if they've got 40mm frontage it shouldn't have any impact on play, I believe.
I am one of the hampshire crew intending to attend - looking forward to seeing you there Alan!

I am interested in the outcome of this. I have 6mm based on 15mm bases but have been working on building 15mm armies for use in tournaments. This would certainly widen opportunities but visually I think this is going to be very difficult to accept.

I hope to be there. Absolutely no problems in facing a 6mm army, bring it on Menacus!

I hope to be there. Don't mind fighting 6mm armies on DBA bases. If an army includes Kn that can dismount as Bd and you play them as, say, Bd in the first game do they have to be played as Bd in the rest of the games or can they revert to being Kn?

Is it OK to just bring empty bases with the name of the troop type written on it. I might not have time to get the figures paint it up?

Is it OK to just bring empty bases with the name of the troop type written on it. I might not have time to get the figures paint it up? Sure, why not. Once in a while, why not. If nothing else it shows to other wargamers passing by that this community is open minded, friendly and welcoming to beginers or people who have run into real life issues. But anyway, this is a totally different situation, with painted miniatures, obviously recognisable as to what they represent. Certainly no worse than using Macedonians pikemen as Mapuche (or whatever), which is also fine once in a while. Easy. Hobby, games, inclusive fun, broad church.

C'm'on, Bob. You can at least glue the figures to the bases and spray paint them all one uniform color! Then you can claim that you are working on painting them, but only had time for a base coat. If it floats your boat and gets you gaming, then go for it! Otherwise, you might be mistaken for a grumpy old man set in his ways ;-) Is it OK to just bring empty bases with the name of the troop type written on it. I might not have time to get the figures paint it up?
