Further to the post about the state of the DBA tournament scene in the UK and news about new members joining the forum, I thought it wouls be interesting to run a simple survey to get a feel of how the DBA scene is looking more globally and not just about tournament participation. So here goes - and fingers crossed that my first attempt at a poll works! Please answer only one of the options. I appreciate this limits the picture to, firstly, the Fanaticus Forum and, secondly, to thise people who are willing to respond. I might try something similar on the Yahoo group.

I voted for the non-tournament environment (which is true for me). However I am thinking of spending 2019 playing in as many UK tournaments as my old car can get to. Think of it as Stevie’s ‘New Years Resolution’. (yeah...like my many New Years Resolutions in the past such as losing weight and stopping smoking!...only this one I mean to keep to)Some potentially useful player aids can be found here, such as the “Quick Reference Sheets” from the Society of Ancients, and the new “Army List Corrections” file: fanaticus-dba.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Reference_sheets_and_epitomes And this is the latest January 2018 FAQ: fanaticus-dba.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ_2018

It will be good to see you Stevie. Dare you travel up to the wilds of the Peak District?

I would love to play in a tournament as I never have before. I live overseas but sometimes come home to visit family in Bolton in the UK. Is there a tournament anyone can recommend near there?Oh and has anyone experience of transporting DBA armies on a plane 🤔?

And I only have to travel from the East Midlands. Plus I do possess a fine collection of outrageous and offensive T-shirts collected over the years from the Nottingham Beer Festival...

Hi Wyvern, I live in Germany, but I've been back to play miniatures a lot. I'm not sure about competitions around Bolton, but I have transported a whole DBM army by plane before! The main thing was having it on hand luggage and magnetized, so any bumps at the airport were not a problem! It gives the guys at security a laugh though. EG

Also tournaments in Bakewell Derbyshire (about 90 mins drive from Bakewell) in February, June and October. Loan armies most likely available to avoid hassle of transporting! Let me know if you would like to know more. Simon

I suppose it would be ok in hand luggage, lots of padding required methinks! I'm sure one would get some raised eyebrows at security but I bet they see all sorts of things in that job. where are you in Germany BTW, I'm in the south near Freiburg. Cheers, Paul.

I have played in five tournaments this year
Cancon - Canberra - January 2018 - a two day event (day 1 books I&II, day 2 books III&IV) Common Ground - DBA With A Twist - Canberra May 2018 - This was an event with a tweak to the rules. Dicing for terrain was divided between the attacker and the defender. I was also the tournament organiser. MOAB - Sydney June 2018 - a two day event (day 1 matched pairs, day 2 a massive multiplayer Samurai Game) Wintercon - Canberra - July 2018 - Standard open fixed list competition. I won the Magister Militum Prize (Highest adjusted score). I was also the tournament organiser Landwaster 2018 - Canberra Novemeber 2018 - Standard open fixed list competition. I stepped in to take over from a player that had to bow out after round 3. I was the tournament organiser as well.
When not playing in tournaments I have a regular group that meets on the second Sunday of each month for a campaign game - this years was set in the early 7th century and involved the rise of the Arab Conquest. You can see the progress of this game in the Capaign board under the thread "Allah for One" Cancon 2019 is coming and I have yet to choose a day one army
Cheers

As I live in a rural community and being the only player of historical miniatures I need to play in tournaments if I'm ever to get any game time. I've played in 4 tournaments this year and only missed a fifth because of medical tests. I'm looking forward to CANCON in the new year, though it does entail a 8-9 hour drive.
Cheers,
