Total number is not a very good metric of actual players. Some people joined in thinking that it was a “data base management” group. Some came in for just a look at what the game was about and left, others looking for a way to advertise something. Once a person joined I don’t think there was a way to resign. I think there were only a few hundred active members Over the life of the group, just like here there are only a few dozen active members. I read somewhere that at its height DBA had 75 different people playing in games at the national summer tournament in the USA, Historicon. That was in the Mid-2000s. There were a dozen games and tournaments at those conventions. There was one event, midnight madness, which was a single elimination tournament, They’ve had 40 some players at one point. Because it was so late, players from all various ancient games participated. They play DBM or DBMM or something else during the day.
