My friend and I are graduating from Marion Romans VS Gauls (very fun matches) to the conquests of Alexander. He purchased the figures for Alexander and Persia while I have started to paint an Indian Army. When glancing at the Big Battle List (we only play BBDBA) it looks something like this:
Indians
3 EL (Commanders)
6 EL
6 Hch
6 Cv
9 4Lb
3 4Ax
3 Hd or Ps (I am probably going to use the Ps option)
The first cool thing is 9 elephants
I am guessing that I should use Bg to my advantage for my Bw. I think in a naked battlefield I am going to have a really hard time. I am also confused on how to use my Elephants properly against his force. In my head I can't picture a good match up that is likely to happen.
The Imperial Alexander list has more options, but I am going to note what my friend has initially stated he thinks he will do:
3 3 Kn (generals)
3 3 Kn Companions
3 LH
18 4Pk (!!!!)
3 Art or EL (he is not sure which to use, but will probably buy both options since we forgot to order them. Neither of us are experienced with using Art either)
3 3/4 Aux or Ps (not sure the best choice for him here. If I use terrain to my advantage 3 Aux seems like the best option for him to engage units in Bg. (I don't see why he would take 6 Ps either)
3 Ps
He will have 6 Kn elements which is not good news, but attacking my Bw directly with them is not a good tactic, so I don't know how they will be used. The pikes are troublesome in my mind because my Bw cannot withstand supported Pike in close combat and Pk hurt my Hch and Cv. I don't know how he would best use El or Art because neither of us have any experience with either element (funny that I am playing Indians then). If he uses all of his Pk in rear support his frontage is only 9 elements which I think will cause him to spread out his rear supports carefully. Having a solid number of Aux/Ps elements does provide a challenge for me in Bg.
Any suggestions/comments/ideas?
