Mrs Cromwell's dishwasher is me! I am low maintenance, cheap and effective and I never put pointy things the wrong way up. Some may remember the British Advertisement for Fairy Washing Up Liquid the slogan ran "Hands that do dishes can be soft as your face!" I have news for them after 60 years of using the product my hands are like an Irish Navies who has skin complaint. And my face is not much better!

I use a plastic Broom ! I cut the bristles off shape the spear point with a pliers and paint . Works great for me and my spears don't poke and they are flexible (no bending and no paint chipping off)

Putting knives upwards in a dishwasher is a good idea as long as you don't forget when you empty it. If you put them downwards all the time they begger up your plastic basket and poke through and get caught up in the cleaning blade thingy. I am also the unfortunate wretch who does the dishes and clearing up in our house too!🙄

We needf to be careful about admitting to sharp spears, pikes and lances or certain armies could be banned under Health & Safety legislation. Simon I hope that you're being funny, Simon. To ban pike blocks is a little daft. I am sure he is, but in 70s my pike blocks used vertical sewing needles my Mum had spare, you put your hands down on a pike block once, you very rarely did it twice. My right hand middle finger still twitches occasionally from a needle going well into it just by the joint with the hand.
My Father used to get me used scalpels and blades, try explaining that one in A&E, or asking your Doctor how much lead you needed to consume before it became dangerous.
The joy of youth, and plaster moulds that had not been dried out properly.

I have heard of people sitting on a pike block in the past ! I can't imagine going to the hospital to get a pike block removed! That would have to be the most bizarre medical scenario imaginable🙄

Any pike block injury I have ever suffered pales into insignificance compared to what an errant scalpel or blob of misplaced super glue can do!
