Hello all, Just a quick question about HFG. I bought the rules to play American Civil war but I have since read that they are a bit convoluted and vague. Im hoping that is just opinion of just a few individuals. Does anyone have much experience with them, how do you find them?
Best wishes, Paul.

I thought they played fine for ACW... They have problems with FPW... They are somewhat bland for Napoleonics... SYW is fun with them. I didn't have any issues with the rules being vague.

The original post suggests that HFG has been completed and published. Is that true? Seemed to me that it had just been forever in development.

Strelnikov, how long does an average game last? Thanks, Paul. Paul, game length depends on how large your game is. I've found a small game (12 brigades per side) can take 2-3 hours, depending on your experience level with the rules & how you set up the battle. If the armies start further apart, the game takes longer. There are some subtle differences between DBA 3.0 & HFG which takes getting used to.

...using our Swiss home rules with 3 commands a 12 elements per side, we need about 2 or 3 houers, using 0ne commender per command:

Looks like an interesting ACW battle.

My only experience was putting them in front of some Napoleonic buffs for playtesting twenty years ago; their verdict after an hour was a damning indictment that they had **** *** to do with Napoleonic warfare. I assume they have moved on a lot since then but trying to cover such a wide range of periods during the development of the musket and rifle is going to result in some very broad brush strokes and I am sure some reports with greater analysis would be much appreciated.
