T&R Miniatures, the owner of the Thistle & Rose Miniature line of detailed 15mm Ancient, Dark Age, and Medieval figures, earlier this year acquired a number of the miniature lines previously owned by Sgt. Major Miniatures. These included miniature lines marketed under the Bloody Day brand name and previously know as the Vendel ranges of 28mm Border Reivers, Ancients and Fantasy figures, the Feudal range of 15mm Ancient, Dark Age, and Medieval figures, and the Venexia range of 15mm Biblical era figures. Our plans are to produce these miniature lines, getting them back into production, as we can, over the course of the rest of 2018. We will start to work on this after we have the Thistle & Rose lines back in production. We have been working on the Thistle & Rose lines for some time and hope to be only a few months away from beginning regular operations. Bill and Brian,
Just started following you on FB. Interested in those Venexia Sea Peoples, but realise they are many months away. Keep us posted.

Good news, Bill and Brian. Was always a big fan of Feudal Castings 15 mm (which became the Bloody Day range under Sgt MM). Are the Welsh, Scots-Irish, Islesmen etc among your acquisitions??

spitzcles, We've already had the Venexia Biblicals painted up by Paul Potter and they do look great!
martin, We do have the Welsh, Scots, etc. from Feudal, although we like our T&R Welsh, Scots, etc. figures better than those. T&R has the rude Scot figures and Brian's Welsh have won a bunch of competitions. :-)

I hope it does not take as long to get the SMM lines (especially Feudal Castings) back up as the T&R. I know you've worked hard for a number of years, and I look forward to buying from both lines, as long as I don't give in first and continue buying other lines of Dark Ages and Feudal figures available on the market!

Thanks for the postive responses. T&R figures had been out of production for 14 years and we also had to learn to cast, etc. It turned out to be a very involved process but a fun mix of hobby and history time. We are now working on the website with qualtiy painted figures to use for the photos.
We will be introducing basic army packs to start with for T&R. We have army builds that will cover DBA 3.0 and/or Triumph!. Figure packs will come shortly thereafter. I'll post a list of armies that will be for sale in the next week.
This is a hobby business for us, so it can't come before family, etc. (Brian and I both have big families.) If all goes well, we should have T&R figures for sale in 60-75 days and follow that as we can with the other lines. The other lines should be quick, but we haven't tested the molds, etc.
We will still be learning the business too, so please be patient.

So here is the initial list of Thistle & Rose basic armies. Scots and Hussites will be right behind the initial armies. Prices to follow too.
There arel 30+ additional armies that can be put together from the 19 basic lines.

Don't I know it! I already have an all options Sea Peoples DBA army, but am considering expanding it to other possibilities (Philistines, etc) or BBDBA force.

Bill and Brian,
Looks like a really interesting project. Good Luck.
Can I ask how you intend packaging your figures for DBA? Complete Army packs? Element packs? Packs of 8 Inf & 4
I could be in the market for a few of the Armies you list.

The mention of Anatolian Turkomans in that list certainly caught my eye. A dedicated line of figures for that army would likely be on my shopping list.

Thanks for the interest and questions. Here is a bit on our philosophy.
Brian and I have a special interest in getting new players into ancient and medieval gaming using 15mm figures playing DBA and other games that can be played with smaller armies.
Based on our analysis, the key economics for a successful small 15mm toy soldier casting business is to cast to order (no inventory costs), sell on line, and sell enough at a time to make it worth the owner/hobbiest's time for that order. This is a hobby business, so by its nature part time. As an accountant with a business background of 30+ years, I believe the biggest mistake hobbyists make is by talking about the 'miniature figure Industry.' (Board gaming as per Board Game Geek are just getting big enough at over a billion dollars to be considered technically an Industry.) Best to think of our hobby as one served primarily by other hobbyist as a cottage industry.
One of the things that is noticable in business in general is the consumer demand for more packaged or bundled products. Time consuming do-it-yourself hobbies tend to run against this trend. Our idea is to do what we can to make it easier for people to get into the hobby. DBA and other games that offer a quality playing experience in a couple of hours is one of the pieces of a bundeled gaming experience.
Thus our plan is to sell basic armies that can be used to field starter DBA and other game system armies. This is part driven by the work that had to be done to bring the T&R lines back into production. You will notice that the numbering system used is the DBA 3.0 army number. The figures provided will allow the specific army to be built. It may not be every option, but it willl provide a good playable army.
There are 19 basic figure lines. These can be used to make up over 70 DBA style armies. We have the 28 done. We will as soon as we can make the root figures available in 6 figure mounted and 12 figure foot sized bags, but with minimum order sizes.
Most of the figures in the new lines have been sold recently and our hope is to sell those in packs as soon as we can test the molds and get the info up on the website, but after we get T&R up and running.

paulhannah,
Turkoman are one of our core figure lines. I'm not sure what you mean by 'dedicated' other than the number of sculpts that were specifically made for this core line.
In doing the back research on the roughly 900 original sculpts in the line, I have been able to tie back the figures to many of the drawings and art in the WRG and Osprey punlications that were available at the time of teh sculpting of the figures (roughly 1985 to 1998.) Core lines of Turks, Mongola, Sassanids and Medeival Persians give a lot of good variation to any horse army from 300 to 1500 AD. These armies have been some of the hardest to figure out.
I am an old hard core Civil War reenactor (thread counter) so I admit to being too much of a perfectionist on some of this stuff. And it is too big a historical period to know it all, so in the end the eye of the beholder may be important.
I'll put up some pictures on Facebook of the Turks and Persians.
