I am beginning to think that it might be worth those people working on the next edition dropping littoral landings altogether, considering the number of areas it seems to have affected.

David Constable I would not drop them altogether...just make them more risky.Just like flank marches...do they turn up,maybe late if at all...and in the chosen place or somewhere else?😊

If you start on flank marches you must include on board ambushes etc., now all you then do is effectively allow most if not all armies them, you increase the possible complications and problems.
It is easier to not allow any form of flank march off board or littoral landing, however you could allow the defender (and possibly attacker) a littoral landing on their own base line and call it an ambush, allow it anywhere on the base line including up to the side edges.
