Solutions to the problem of carrying miniatures

I know there is a thread somewhere on this forum, where people have discussed what they store and move their figures in, but I am unable to find it for you.

Hopefully somebody else knows where it is.

It is a good thread too, where people have posted pics on their various methods.

It seems like many people use metal on the bases, and transport their figs. on magnetized containers.

...there are more then 20 of the smaller ones. but it is  much to do to change between DBA, Tri umph & AGF to be prepared for the next game...and the are also boxes for ACW, 7YW, ssengoku Samurai & 19cent Europe...

There is no real alternative to magnetizing the bases, then sticking them on something metallic.
Most metal carrying cases work fine. So doe carrying cases to which metal sheets have been applied.

I use metal tool boxes for storage and transport.

I have my figures mounted on cardboard stands (asked the local portrait photographer and picture framing shop for the cut-out sections of their 'matboards', magnetic vinyl on bottom (asked local 'truck sign' printer if they had 'roll ends' or 'printed out of register' of the stuf), attached with white glue. Have a bunch of 'tinplate' boxes from porch sales / flea markets / thrift stores, common in US for 'Christmas cookies', etc - these are usually big enough for one DBA army.

For toting them around, inherited my mother's 'bowling-ball' bag - few other things meant to easily carry heavy stuff.

I use steel bases and then put the magnetic sheet on the bottom of a really useful box. Take a look st my earlier post “Steel bases” which has photos of the approach I use and even me upending a box full of figures to demonstrate they are held securely in place.

The advantage of using steel bases is:
They are very thin and so do not intrude into the look of the model or the game.
The are heavy and add a nice heft to the unit plus the mean that the elements seldom topple over - even on hills.
They are not too badly priced when compared to alternatives.
They are ridged and precise - so ealy yo aligh elements.
They are magnetic - which means when combined with a "Really Useful Box" fitted with self adhesive magnetic sheets that the figures are held firmly in place - Honestly you can up end the box and they don't fall out.
Finally all this greatly reduces figure damage. I've only lost 1 figure in the last 20 years since adopting this approach and that was when I dropped a whole box from about 4ft.
