An English wargamer travelling in the United States is missing his wargames. In desperation he walks into a bar in a sleepy back woods town in Alabama.
"Does any body here know how to play DBA?" asks the Englishman of the guys in the bar.
A very elderly man spits towards the spitoon and replies "I sure as hell never played no DBA, however I can give you a quick hoe down on me banjo!"

A bit off on the dialect - it would have been 'muh banjo...'

A bit off on the dialect - it would have been 'muh banjo...' Sorry about that, never having been to Alabama myself my knowledge of local dialects is sketchy at best, in fact I have heard it said the accent in the southern states of USA has similarities to the English Norfolk accent. I cant say I have noticed it myself except perhaps both tend to draw out the vowels in some words. Got to go, re-tuning "Muh Banjo!"

So, I have never had the pleasure of visiting 'Bama either - Colorado native.
However I have heard native speakers and read both phonetic renditions of the dialect. And many a spoof of a Country Western song title -
'Me banjo' is definitely UK or Irish (hear it a lot in the TV and movies from the Isles) - perhaps when the original Scots-Irish immigrants arrived you would have heard that.
Still an amusing piece.

As to the ghosts, nothing to worry about there, I once saw my Mother-in-Law in her nightie finding her way to the the bathroom with a torch, put the fear of God into me, as you advised. I left well alone!
