Just had a good look at the Warlords of Thain from RPE with a view to using them for the Welsh. Can't say I'm convinced. Lovely models but to me they are not right for the Welsh. I'm sticking with the Alternative Armies Medus Range! Paddy Timurilank,
Sorry - I stand corrected. The title of the thread is "Looking for suitable figures – Welsh III/19a" and then I went and judged the Warlords of Thain from RPE from the perspective of the later Welsh III/19b or c. I only realised my error when double checking the purple!
Yes - I now agree that the Warlords of Thain would fit with Welsh III/19a given a bit of green stuff.

Just to give you all a view on the Alternative Armies Medus Figures for the South Welsh III/19b - here are some photos of my test pieces. First the Archers all 3Lb: Then a Bow Skirmishers (actually these will be for the North Welsh.)
Finally my test conversion of how I intend to do the welsh cavalry. This figure has the heater shield milled off with a dremmel and replaced by an Essex Miniatures Dark Ages shield. I think this looks the part for South Welsh Cavalry:
Enjoy!

Nice work paddy. I like most of the old TTG figures and the Welsh are some of the better. It is a pity that they don't have the cavalry and some warband types (and none of the current producers are doing new figures). Wouldn't take too much to convert the Byzantine Slavic Javelinman to Welsh - cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0371/5545/products/by6.jpgCould modify the weapons as well. And then perhaps a round shield version of their Mounted Saxon Huscarl - cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0371/5545/products/SAC3_1.jpgViking Forge (Asgard) have a number of examples in their Dark Age lines that could work for the cavalry as well.

Unfortunately paddy I don't have any of the mounted Huscarls. I do have a variety of the TTG Normans and the Breton heavy - cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0371/5545/products/nc3_1.jpgwww.alternative-armies.com/collections/15mm-dark-age-and-ancients-isarus-range/products/nc3-norman-breton-heavy-cavalrywith his shield a bit more forward wouldn't be as bad to remove (and the overarm spear/javelin might fit with the CV designation better). I had some Black Raven Factory orcs with the skull shields that I didn't care for that I was able to take the shields off using an Xacto knife and a razor box cutter (and some elbow grease...). It took a while, but for three figures would not be too onerous. One thought would be to mark off circle on the existing shield and just remove the lower portion. If not quite as large in diameter as desired a larger shield could be attached to the face.
