Dear Fanatici, I got the idea to create cards of each troop type, listing the specific rules that related to that type. Not all the rules nor the general rules for specific situations. Just the exceptions that are easy to forget. I got the inspiration from Tony Aguilar and friends on YouTube. So I approached stevie and he took the production to the next level. After some back and forth email revisions, the final document is ready to share. Please note, you cannot play DBA with these cards alone and they do not substitute for the rules in "The Purple". They are just an aid to help remember specific rules. Here is an example: Here is the file: Troop Hint Cards for DBA 3.0 Ancients.pdf (747.91 KB) Look forward to your feedback. Cheers Jim

Of course, no one wants to fight the 100 years war with ancient illustrations, so here is a medieval version: Troop Hint Cards for DBA 3.0 Medieval.pdf (737.25 KB) Please note, the lack of chariots in the medieval period created a small problem but I think stevie's solution was well constructed. Cheers Jim

Hey, these look really good. I know I'll benefit from reviewing these. I'll also make them available to some in our group who don't yet seem very comfortable with V-3.
Many thanks!

Thanks for the kind words. Definitely a joint effort. This project is at least as much stevie's as it is mine.

Well done Jim and Stevie, I noticed two BUA (edifice + hamlet) are not listed. Any particular reason for their omission?

Well Timurilank, As Edifice is just bad going, and Hamlets are just rough, and both are treated as other area terrain features...thatâs about it. There isnât anything else special to put on the card (except maybe that BUA's can touch the table edges). Actually, youâve given me an idea. Jim, one card we missed out on is a "Terrain Card". I'll start work on it and send it to you when finished (listing placement, shooting limitations, any special pursuit and fleeing effects, PIP costs, which affects Command Range, and so on). Leave it with me... LATER EDIT:-
The Terrain Hint Card can now be found in here: fanaticus-dba.fandom.com/wiki/File:Hint_Cards_for_DBA_3.0.pdf And for those people who would like blank Hint Cards, so they can take photographs of their own elements and put those pictures on them:- fanaticus.boards.net/post/13800/Some potentially useful player aids can be found here, such as the âQuick Reference Sheetsâ from the Society of Ancients, and the new âArmy List Correctionsâ file: fanaticus-dba.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Reference_sheets_and_epitomes And this is the latest January 2018 FAQ: fanaticus-dba.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ_2018

Look forward to it stevie. But we don't want to replace the actual rulebook with playing aids. It's a balance to get the playing aids out to enhance DBA and get more people buying the book and playing the game. Jim

I was thinking I could use them to create a crib sheet for each of my armies...so I can swot before/during a battle.đ

Really cool idea and so well executed. I have a printed page in a binder for each of my armies that shows the elements I actually have, their enemy list and I recently added some reminders on special abilities like flank support and such but this takes it to an entire new level.

Re amlets - and slightly off topic - at deployment time can you put an element into a hamlet? I've always thought that this was not a problem but recently I was told that you can't do it.

Re amlets - and slightly off topic - at deployment time can you put an element into a hamlet? I've always thought that this was not a problem but recently I was told that you can't do it. Martini...it all depends. See page 7 paragraph 1:- âIf a BUA is chosen, it must be a City, Fort, Hamlet or Edifice and will belong to the defender.â Just as an invader cannot deploy inside a defenderâs City or Fort, an invader cannot deploy inside a defenderâs empty Hamlet or Edifice. (And the Hamlet or Edifice will be empty if they are outside the defenderâs deployment area) Some potentially useful player aids can be found here, such as the âQuick Reference Sheetsâ from the Society of Ancients, and the new âArmy List Correctionsâ file: fanaticus-dba.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Reference_sheets_and_epitomes And this is the latest January 2018 FAQ: fanaticus-dba.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ_2018

I canât find any rule that prevents such defender deployment, as long as the Hamlet is in your deployment area. The question arises when it is the invader who wants to deploy in the Hamlet in his deployment zone. The Hamlet âbelongs to the defender.â This is one of the unresolved issues of DBA. What does it mean to belong to the defender but in The invaders deployment area. I am not as sure as Stevie that an unoccupied hamlet is the same as an occupied city or fort.
